Maybe this will be changed later or be revealed to just be a mistake but what does everyone think of Melee not being on the list of games that will be shown at Evo?? Do you think it'll negatively impact the community or is it just a small bump in the road?

Melee does not need EVO. It has a decade+ lifespan, which is a very rare for fighting games and still has maintained a constant presence that still grows to this day.

At the same time however, EVO does not need Melee. Just because a game is popular and has a legacy does not suddenly give it veto rights to return every consistent year-3rd Strike, Super Turbo and Marvel 2/3 were also huge draws to EVO in the past but were all retired in due time too.

And let us be real here-from a general outsider standpoint donating 2/9th of the videogame slots to a single IP comes off as partially disrespectful for all the other Fighting game IPs and their communities that worked and dreamed of getting their game into EVO, much like the Smash scene did 6 years ago with that donation drive. Under-Night's community is in many ways the exact same as Skullgirls (the game that came in 2nd to Melee) and probably never imagined they would see their game in. And SamSho is one of the most respected classic Fighting Game series out there which many thought would have never had a new installment. So I'm honestly ecstatic for the new games in personally.

And on a personal level, it's probably for the best. during the time that Melee and Sm4sh were in it seemed to always devolve into **** waving contests of which game had more entrants or which one got the Sunday slot. And we don't need that crap anymore.

Melee had a good run we should be proud of that, I think Melee passing the baton to Ultimate is a crowning moment in the Smash community.

Melee is fine. Melee is and always will be the bread and butter of the Smash community because there likely wouldn't be one so strong if it wasn't for Melee being a part of it. Melee is still widely considered one of the best Smash titles and is still played as much as ultimate and heavily watched.

Exactly, just cause it's not at Evo does not mean It's dead. Plus people like Mang0/Leffen still play melee. As long as the community keeps playing Melee and supporting it melee will be fine.

lmao this guy is seething, ultim8 will prolly be forgotten like sm4sh when the next hot thing comes out
Sad, but agreeable, However I feel like the two legacys (Classic <Melee>, and Modern <Sm4sh, Smash Ultimate>) will live on as styles
I don't think melee will live on if a new smash game with melee speed and hitlag were to come out, and the new game would take melee's place and smash ultimate would live on the side. Its more realistic to think of the two games as different styles of the same genre, as Marvel is to Street fighter.

TL:DR: While Modern Smash gets replaced by each new installment, the same would have happened to melee if Nintendo gave it its chance that it deserves.

Sorry but why melee players care if their game is not at evo?? Do you believe that your game will die because it skips an evo??? You should more worried about your locals and regionals attendes numbers that EVO, because that is how your game keeps alive, not with twitch viewers because honestly that is what you get from evo, but the more you focus on viewers the more you make your game a celebrity show melee is already there because most of the viewers only care about what the gods do, focus on competitors and not viewers.
