My improved roster. Features:
>51 character slots (all 35 Brawl vets + 16 newcomers)
> Pokemon, LOZ, and Mario all have 5 reps
>Star Fox, Kirby, Fire Emblem, DKC, and Kid Icarus all have 3 reps each.
>2 new retro characters

Notes:
> Mewtwo is all but guaranteed, and Lucario has new found significance with his mega-evolution. Besides, if Toon Link is of any indication, most every Brawl vet is safe.
> Do I want Ridley to make the cut? Hell yes. Do I honestly EXPECT him to? Hell no. But perhaps the fan's clamoring demands were heard by Sakurai. At least Ridley has managed to stay relevant all these years. So he has that in his favor at least.
> Solid Snake's chances of returning are severely undermined due to Kojima's blatant neglect towards Wii U. But I hope Sakurai's good relations with Kojima can manage the return of Snake. He deserves a spot.
> I honestly think that Ghirahim can be the exception to the whole (one-off Zelda villains don't make the cut) rule. His move set potential is immaculate, and virtually every Nintendo gamer recognizes him. Plus if we are to have a fifth Zelda rep, it sure as hell better be a villain, and other than Ganondorf, Ghirahim is definitely the most relevant villain. Plus he isn't hated in the West like Tingle. Besides, Tingle has ZERO move set potential. A balloon strapped to his back? Pfft. One word: VILLAGER.
> Since Kid Icarus has many fans, and Sakurai himself created it, i think it's safe to assume that it will have a nice balanced amount of characters: 3. Same as the other (relatively) small series like Star Fox, and Sakurai's brain child, Kirby.
> Yoshi is not counted in the "Mario rep" group since he has had a significant amount of solo games. (Also his series icon is different. Duh). Same goes for Wario.
> Although I don't honestly care much for Pac-man, Namco- Bandai's cooperation in SSB4 raises his chances significantly. Also having Mario, Pac-man, Sonic, and Mega Man in the same game would be earth-shatteringly epic. And, who knows?
Perhaps he could have a good move set. I mean, he has punching gloves, long legs, and a giant mouth. Perhaps something cool can be done with a little imagination.
> Little Mack is long over due. And perhaps SSB4 can give Takamaru a second chance at fame. It worked with Ice Climbers, Mr. Game and Watch, and Pit. The Takamaru attraction in Ninteno Land at least shows that he is not forgotten by Ninty.
> This left me with two gaping holes to fill in order to complete my roster. I'm aware that many people clamor for certain characters. But Geno is no longer relevant, Toad has an extremely limited move set potential (and is part of Peache's move set anyways), King K. Rool hasn't seen the light of day in any form in YEARS, and the F-Zero franchise is dead in the water at the moment. So basically left me with two choices: Waluigi and Shulk.
> Waluigi: We have all seen Waluigi fighting as an assist trophy in Brawl. We KNOW that he can work. And he is very relevant. He has been in every Mario Kart game since Double Dash, and has been in EVERY Mario sports game. He has been requested for a while now and, in this case, it actually makes sense.
> Shulk: Monolith Soft is a first-party developer for Nintendo so Shulk is technically a first-party Nintendo character. His game, Xenoblade Chronicals, was IMMENSELY successful and well reviewed. As you see, there is honestly NO reason why he shouldn't at least be on Sakurai's waiting list. As for "X", I doubt that the timing of this game threatens Shulk's chances. In theory, SSB4 will release only months after "X". Even if the protagonist of "X" becomes hugely popular, a few months is not enough time to sneak a playable character into Smash Bros. Perhaps an assist trophy could make it though.
Or, we could get rid of Waluigi and have a nice round number of 50. I actually like this layout more. As you can see, the original 12 (red outlines) are wrapped around the top and in the correct order they appear in the Smash 64 roster. Luigi, Mario, DK, Link, Samus, Captain Falcon, Ness, Yoshi, Kirby, Fox, Pikachu, and Jigglypuff in that order. Despite this, the characters are all organized in vertical columns according to their respective franchises. So, Mega-bidoof. Choose your favorite and hit me with your best shot.
