yeah, i'm thinking some will be unlockable, i like unlocking things. I'd even be happy with only starting with the original 8. But i really want to know the final roster. but maybe because we didn't get anything in March we will get a unexpected newcomer, i like little mac, but i figured he was already in prior to them revealing him.

Yeah one of my favorite aspects of Smash is unlocking characters. Very old school and I like it!

I think it's too early to say either way as many of the revealed characters were previously unlocked characters in previous games and depending how far out the game is there may still be alot of revealing time ahead.

We've had longer hiatuses than this. There likely isn't a reason that there were no character reveals for March beyond Sakurai simply opting to showcase other things.

I can't see characters like Yoshi, Wario, and Meta Knight being unlockable. I bet that some of the characters that are already confirmed are unlockable (like Rosalina and Toon Link).

We don't know who's unlockable and who's not. Why assume everyone revealed up to this point is a starter? And why assume everyone else revealed after a character-free March is unlockable? Maybe Sakurai wanted to show off some other stuff this month. We did get a whole buttload of new info.

We will know who's a starter and who's unlockable after the game's release. Third-parties can be an exception to that rule.

Either way, I doubt he's done revealing veterans. I kinda doubt that series with precedence will have no starting characters (Mother, Yoshi, Wario, F-Zero, )

Ice Climbers, Yoshi, Wario and other characters that have never been unlockables, are the only representatives for their series, and are unlikely to get an additional rep as a newcomer are very likely to be starters.

Also, Shiek and Zero Suit Samus, if in the game (which seems likely), would need their own reveals.

So no, I don't think we are done with veteran reveals.

Someone said this in another thread: Sakurai was probably holding off on revealing new characters so the Famitsu article on SSB4 would be current when it hit shelves. Once that issue runs its course, we should be getting more characters.

Brawl had 21 individual slots and 25 characters (counting Sheik, ZSS, and PT's pokemon). If this is the cutoff, we'd have less than Brawl's starting roster with more than half a dozen of the characters who were in Brawl's suddenly becoming unlockable or outright cut for some strange reason.

Some of the ones that have ben starters since the begining and some for special cases and newcomers

Shiek
Meta knight
Pokemon trainer
Ice climbers
Yoshi
Lucas
Ike
Wario

So plenty to come




And some characters could be revealed for special case including unlockable ones

Luigi = year of luigi

Sonic = lost worlds

Toon link = new toon zelda game bundle for wii u

Lucario = brawl anniversary (but still considered random)

Marth = fire emblem anniversary ( but again likely to just be random just a rumor for FE anniversary)

And it does not mean that all of them are going to be starters (exspecially for sonic)





And for newcomers we can't determain if all of them could be starters

Megaman = first uber hype character for smash 4 trailer (3rd party is its a lock for have to be unlocked)

And a few other newcomers could get the same thing

Mewtwo is the most wanted veteran and do you really think the strongest pokemon would be a starter

Ridley if he was revealed before release the chances are so so slim for being starter

So to consider if they are unlockable or not.

The only way a trailer would have 4 characters if it was E3 no way for 1 direct unless the trailer was big enough for some

I feel the next character reveal might be mewtwo or ridley (due to long wait) (and 100% on ridley if he does a April fools joke about deconfirming ridley)
