This thread marks the start of a new weekly series, Match Analysis! Every week, we will be analyzing a new set, preferably tying in with the current MU discussion, but possibly otherwise depending on tournaments coming up.

Match Analyzing is an essential part of getting better. Through it, you can recognize your faults, your strengths, and what you need to improve.

For newer players, you guys can get a feel of how Diddy is being played, you can find out more optimal decisions and combos and generally figure out how to play Diddy Kong.

For more experienced players, you can still find new things to improve. New tactics that you hadn't thought of before. New ledge-trapping or pressure techniques.
Hopefully you will help me get this going, so, without further ado, Ally vs. Zinoto!

Set #1

Set #2

Feel free to give your own analysis. Whether it is just a thought or a long article. If you have any questions about the matches or analysis, feel free to ask them here.

Also, make sure to sub to Gooshi Gaming for more Zinoto/Ally action. They play a lot.

Match:
Ally (Mario) vs. Zinoto (Diddy) GF Set #1 (SFW #31)

Combos:
MFK > Fair (1:04) (32% M 102% D)
Dtilt > Dsmash (2:44) (31% M 57% D)
Dtilt > Ftilt (5:58) (70% M 65% D)
Dtilt > Fair (1:30) (84% M 126% D)
Banana Drop > Fair (5:15) (0% M 11% D)
Banana > Dtilt > Usmash (4:45) (124% M 89% D)
Banana > Usmash (1:50) (119% M 133% D) (1:54) (127% M 133% D)
Uthrow > Nair (5:28) (21% M 39% D)
Uthrow > Fair (2:49) (49% M 61% D) (4:27) (93% M 82% D) (5:33) (32% M 46% D)
Uthrow > Uair (1:37) (10% M 39% D) (4:35) (107% M 89% D) (5:50) (48% M 65% D)
Uthrow > Bair (0:42) (10% M 67% D) (3:52) (6% M 25% D)

Movement:

MF/MFK
Foxtrot
Foxtrot-Shield
Running
Roll Back

Game 1 Notes:
Starts with a Banana toss, but ignores the banana once he sees that Ally is approaching. Plays semi-aggressively.

Tries to get the banana but Ally usually gets to it first Zinoto uses SH Fairs and SH FF Fairs to try and pressure Ally

Zinoto likes to use Fall Back Jump Fairs and MFK to get onto the stage, while sweetspotting with MF to get onto the ledge.

At 1:10, Zinoto places a banana at roll distance before SH Bairing to catch both Roll and Jump options from the ledge. This would have also set him up to punish get-up.

He changes Playstyles with the banana, opting for a more shield oriented one. Foxtrotting into shield and forcing Ally to come in, which could give an opening for Banana.

Zinoto opts for Banana after a Uthrow at 100%. Probably because Uair wouldn't have killed.

Zinoto plays very defensively with Banana, but Ally notices this almost immediately and counters his playstyle. Reading rolls and using tomahawks.

Primary moves in neutral are MF, MFK, SH Fair dtilt and Grab.

Zinoto seemingly uses MFK and Fair to get Ally away for long enough to get a banana.

Thoughts:

Ally really shut-down Zinoto's defensive and reactionary playstlyes, as well as just avoided dying.

If I had to point to anything as the reason Zinoto lost this game, it is losing with the banana. Zinoto wasn't able to utilize the banana and Ally played his cards well.

Zinoto was really good at mixing up his recovery patterns and how he got on the stage.

Game 2 Notes:
Zinoto starts aggresively, but again gets read and Ally Combo'ed.

Zinoto uses a series of mix-ups when in the corner. He jumps to a height where he could MF away, but then FF Bairs Ally as he drops his shield. When Ally approaches, he SH FF Fairs and then MF's during Ally's Foxtrot. after buying the space, he draws a banana.

Zinoto is really good at mixing up his options after Banana pluck. He sometimes runs for the grab, and other times rolls back to pick up the banana.

While holding Banana, Zinoto seems to have two movement options, roll or Foxtrot-Shield. ally reads this and punishes it often.

Zinoto is getting more grabs this game, and has better control of the banana.

Uthrow-Nair? assuming mis-input.

As MF never autocancels, Zinoto uses Bair upon landing.

Thoughts:

I find it funny that the only time Zinoto gets punished for his get-up option is when he mixes it up and doesn't use Fair or MFK. Talk about bad luck.

Overall better pllay from Zinoto, but Ally really punished his defense.

Match:
Zinoto (Diddy) vs. Ally (Mairo) GF Set 2
