Mastering FOD

My school semester is finally ending today, and I want to keep my habit of sparking conversation on these boards going. So here's what I was thinking. I want to discuss the things that us falcons as a whole seem to be doing badly at. In order to make him more of a threat, erasing these problems needs to be a standard.

So here's a couple ideas. The first thing is this, we're bad on FOD. It's fine to say the stage is hard for us, but I think we can use to it essentially reinvent our character if we really tried hard enough. We have the ability to make completely unique hit boxes, crazy ledgecancels, etc. We just need to put the time and effort into it. (Plus the fact that you can fall off the ledge with any ****ing aerial and make it back is pretty ballin.)

So, since I'm going to have so much to talk about, I think I should go over one thing at a time, so we don't gloss over things by trying too much. So here's the discussion point. What do we do to improve ourselves on FOD? How do we turn our man Douglas into a monster on this stage?

You should consider changing the title of this thread. It's not conducive to a good discussion since a lot of people will gloss over this thread.

The tech chase game becomes pretty different on FoD with low platforms. This leads to two fairly non-standard situations: tech under the low platform or end up on top of the low platform, either way tends to stuff your typical SH aerial tech chase. There are plenty of alternative options, (don't feel like listing them) but it's very different from any other stage.

I think it's worth nothing that at certain heights, a dsmash from under the platform covers the whole platform.

Really? How do you position yourself for that (I'm assuming we're talking about the low platform height)?

Also, might be worth mentioning that you can shffl nair onto the low platform and it will cancel after the first hit, which you could then probably link to a platform drop aerial. Could have interesting results for combos and may work as a weird approach if the other person isn't expecting it. I think Falcon's biggest weakness on FoD is the low height platform, so thinking of ways to work around would probably benefit us the most.

Me and a friend actually talked about FoD. He said it was probably the most defensive stage in the game because the below the low platforms is an incredibly good defensive position. Sadly, us Falcons don't have nearly as much stuff to take advantage of that as the other top/high tiers (afaik anyway).

Really I like this stage. People expect you to suck, but then it turns out you're one of the few falcons who actually practiced this stage.

You just have to understand when the platforms will mess your shffl, and when they won't. Also, when the plats are low, you can hit people with side-b :p

I didn't know you can make it back with any aerial. Yesterday I tried dropping knee to walljump... Didn't make it back. Then again I was pretty blazed

The Dsmash hits low platforms just because dsmash has such a high hitbox, it's the same concept as raptor boost tech chases covering the whole platform. Another weird thing is that if you usmash under the low platforms, it brings you up from the ground onto the platform. I think overall we need to get amazing at ledgecanceling those strange height platforms, and using uair and nair better to create unorthodox hitboxes. Nicco, the dropping knee definitely works, you just have to be holding forward the whole time.

me and my friend always practice this stage during falcon dittos.
we are the only two falcon mains in our tiny region that like this stage.
personally, I'd rather be falcon on this stage than falco, cause it messes up meh layzahz yo!

FoD is definitely a pain. I find the only effective options I have to tech chasing on FoD would be regrabs. Force them to either give up stage positioning so that they push themselves to the edge and then force an edge guard or to down throw them at low percents, toward the center stage where you have a little more freedom to shffl.

You want to master this stage? Sure. Shield dropping is God tier on this stage with falcon. learn it.

Other then that. Dont shffl nair aproach when you see the platform being at a annoying height.

Try to attack from the top platform sometimes. Full hop waveland -> uair/bair or even down air to catch someone crouching undereath on of the - - platforms.

Also dont counterpick it vs sheik. dont lol

Jeapie, are you going to EVO? I want to go but probably not.
I'm saving up for Apex 2014 though. I want to play against errbody and their grandma.
