I haven't played either game, but I'm considering about buying both of them at some point, but what I'm baffled by is how Nintendo of all people, is the publisher of these games as well having the rights to them. This is similar to how I've reacted when I learned that Sony owns the game rights for Spider-Man and the upcoming Wolverine game. Honestly, I would've expected some Nintendo easter eggs in either games, or a character to appear in Smash Bros.
