experience doesn't at all directly relate to how long or often you play it relates to who and how you play. you could have been playing for all these years and not learned an andvanced tactic at all which pretty much gives someone no credibility when they talk about pretty much any aspect of the game since your reasoning and scenario analysis is severely limited to the basic game mechanics. I didn't learn advanced tactics until maybe 3 or so years ago yet technically I had been playing the game since launch as well, quite frequently also. At the time I thought roll dodging was the key to mastering the game, I would hardly have called myself experienced even though technically I had been playing as long as Ken, Azen, or Chillin or whoever was doing well in tournaments at that time.
Who and how you play would relate to kind or type of experience,

Webster's Omline dictionary definition for "experience"
experience - direct observation of or participation in events as a basis of knowledge

But yes, that's enough I really dont want to press this any further. could we continue the thread topic? my appologies for taking this as far is it is.

The definition is correct, but your basis of knowledge can be skewed if you don't play good players. You can have 5 years of experience of playing with bad players, or 5 years of experience of playing really good ones. Good player basis of knowledge > bad player.

I know you said you didn't want to argue but I rather like this one. Your definition did not help your cause, only solidified how important knowledge and observation are. The definition has no interpretation of time, only states that your observation combined with what basis of knowledge is available for you relates directly to how experienced you are.

So technically you can be well experienced with playing "noob-like" for 5 years and claim that as experience. Or you can be well experienced playing in tournaments and such. So while your technically right about how experienced you are, and this is what I think you are trying to point out, This does not translate to how skilled you are in Smash Melee.

So everyone as Azure wants to point out, he is very experienced. But he can also still be a bad or good player. Stop trying to interpret that saying he is experienced means he is skilled at the game.

Definition of skill:
Skill:
The ability to perform a task or activity consistently over a period of time. The expertise required for a particular task or occupation which may include manual dexterity and/or mental aptitude.

So while it ties in with experience, experience doesn't directly translate into skill. KoreanDJ is a perfect example to this. Although he has a lot of experience now, he rose to the top much faster than anyone had recently.

Thank you very much.

Now, regarding my actual skill. As you know, I'm a Marth player. I think that playing as such a popular character gives me a good oportunity to compare myslef to other players, many that i see are more skilled than i am.

As for my kind of experience, it has become much less frequent due to my lack of a working gamecube, but when i play, i play against only skilled players (as in well above the difficulty of any CPU. very well above.)

Ok, i think this is as cleared up as it can get, so back to the forum topic. (by the way, I plan to uplad videos in the near future.)
