Marth Terminology
Hi my name is Neon. I made this thread with the intention of helping new Marth mainers understand those ugly words that make Marth a god. I know people freak out at first when they start maining Marth and start seeing words as RAR and Weaving. They have not even the slightless clue of what it means. But im here to help out.
Weaving= Firstly the structure of Marth's game is this. Weaving is changing the momentum of your initial aerial attack to another direction while still keeping the same attack. Example: Do a Fair then immediately pull your controller stick the opposite direction. This Technique returns you to the spot that you firstly left. Its the key to correct spacing.
RAR(Reverse Aerial Rush)= RAR is using your forward momentum to jump and change it to backwards before the jumping animation while keeping the same forward speed but in a backwards movement. Example: Run forward and tap the opposite direction and immediately jump. If done right you will not lose speed and keep going the same you were going but backwards. This sets up a lot of Marth KO's. Whenever your Fair is ''Decayed'' you can RAR it and use Bair instead which is stronger.
SHFF(Short Hop Fast Fall)= It was at first Shuffle but due to L cancelling not existing anymore in brawl its written like this now. SHFF is literally what it says, Short Hop and land faster by falling faster. Example: Short Hop and press control stick down fast immediately. You should see your falling animation speed up greatly.
Hyphen Smash= Its basically doing an Upsmash while running. This is one of the most use finishers for Marth's chain grabs.
Shutter Step Smash= Its an Fsmash with a bit more of a longer range. Its a great tipper and another finisher for chain grab combos. Example: Press forward on the control stick then immediately smash with the Cstick the same direction you tapped the control stick. If done correctly Marth takes a step forward before smashing.
Tipping= Its hitting attacks with the tip of your sword. No more to that.
Spacing= Its keeping a distance from your enemy by attacking with fast attacks and weaving to return to your original position. This way Marth is always distance from his enemy to prevent attacks and escape easily. Marth cant win a fight without this tech. This technique must be perfected if you want to play at competitive levels.
B Reversal= Its flipping the Shieldbreaker to the opposite direction of where you are facing in the air. Example: Jump and tap the opposite you are facing and then press B. You should turnaround and use Shieldbreaker.
Quick Ledge Attack= While hanging on the ledge, press the control stick away from the ledge while hitting the C-stick toward the ledge or up.
OOS (Out of Shield)= You can Dancing Blade, fullhop Dair or Dolphin Slash oos.
How to Dolphin Slash Out of Shield
With Tap Jump On, While Shielding, simply press Up and B at the same time.
With Tap Jump Off, While Shielding press Up on the analog stick. You'll see his shield move up press Y or R or w/e your jump button is and B at the same time. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0dmGGVYGbE)
True Pivot Attacks= phanna has a video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4tmLsflA_c) on true pivot attacks. Shieldbreaker literally hits the point you were just standing so it's a pretty good spacing tool. Unfortunately you can't do this out of a continued dash like you can for an Aerial Rush.
Dancing Blade Stall= Dancing Blade is good on recovery. If the opponent is edgehogging right when you normally would Dolphin Slash just b forward once so their invincibility wears out. Dolphin Slash can make it back from a lot of things because of Brawl's auto-grab mechanics and the fact that if you don't hit down Marth floats at the top of his Dolphin Slash for a while. The first dancing blade immediately after a jump gives you a little lift.
Fox Trot smash= (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2X9oqJEXYMM)
Double Jump/Auto Platform Land - The fastest way a Marth can land on a lower "neutral" platform (such as the ones found on Battlefield and Lylat Cruise) is through this technique. Quickly hit your jump twice when under a platform to land on it faster than you would have with a full hop. You can also use this technique to land from aerials fasters as you approach a platform, which lets you quickly move onto your next attack.

There are still a few techniques to be covered but i will add more as i remember. Anyways i hope this helps.
