Well if you dont't know what wavedashing and the other advanced techniques are then I suggest (sorry I can't add a thread) you go onto youtube and search "how to play advance". it's a 3 part video and you should watch all three because they're very helpful. If there's anything else you need after that, just say so.

This is what you need to get started:

http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=42749

That should cover everything you need to know in order to get started.

Now, for Samus specific:

http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=98477&highlight=samus

A pretty knowledgeable player we on the marth boards call UMBC describes pretty good strats and techniques on beating Samus.

As for videos of professional players:

http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=89158

This is a video archive of a lot of good players. Kizzu, although has amazing combos and is one of the top players in his country, shouldn't be your primary example of how to play, no matter how flashy he is. Also, another thing I should say is that watching these vids won't make you amazing. You'll learn a few tricks, and get a basic understanding of basic applications of advanced techniques, but because your not understanding what the players are thinking, don't really base your playstyle off of thiers.

This next thread is amazing for any questions or concerns you have. Honestly, I can personally say that this thread will probably help you the most.

http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=102763

Basically, this thread was started by a player named Emblem Lord, who cleaned up the marth boards pretty well. If you ask questions about ANYTHING in that thread, and you should have a lot of questions considering how new you are, people will answer it. And if no one does, I'll help as much as I can. A pro player named Cactuar also answers questions in that thread, so there's definitely reliable advice given there.

Ok, lastly, I personally like to look this thread over every once in a while.

http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=102436

Basically, it will give you good approaches with Marth, and should help you get started understanding when and where and how to attack your opponent. The same person that made the Q&A thread made this thread, so it's pretty reliable.

Basically, nobody wants Marth in brawl lol. As soon as the brawl room on this site opened, there were like 3 threads about how ppl didn't want marth in brawl, and everyone i've talked to say they dont think marth is gonna be in it. I know, it sux.

If they're going to get rid of Marth then I hope they get rid of every other highly played character so everyone, not just the Marth users, are screwed over. It's not fair

well, we know fox is in it, so hopefully they will nerf fox, or just make other characters better. But let's not get off topic. No talk about brawl! lol

Generally, you want to be more patient when facing a Samus, since she is the CC god. A good number of your moves can break through missiles, so don't be afraid to stop them. Slowly add damage to Samus until they get around 90% or so and then start going for the kill. With proper DI, a Samus can survive well over 100%. Oh, and strike Dreamland 64. It is a Samus stage.

As for Brawl, uh, well, chances are that he WON'T be in it. Roy and Marth were really fan-service characters, and no one expected them to be popular outside Japan. They could return, but don't count on it...

When he says "Strike" Dreamland 64, he means in tournaments when the Judge asks you what stages your banning, ban Dreamland 64. This is because samus's recovery is amazing, and since the sides and ceiling are so wide and high, it's hard to kill her there, not to mention missile spamming and missiling your recovery, and platforms for missile cancels.

Ya dude, no problem. Ask some more questions, I like giving advice. But really, if you wanna get better, you should tell your friend to ask for advice in the samus part of this site. If he gets better, then you have to get better to beat him, y'know? and it just keeps forcing both of you to be better.
