sorry if this has been discovered before (i dont think it was) (and i searched the forums)

but i was doing a fair/sword dance combo and i discovered something--
if you jump towards a ledge and the forwardB away from the ledge once, you'll drift backwards in the jump and then grab the ledge.

its a handy little thing to know. useful anyone?

people like to use jump bair rather than forward B since its faster, forward B makes u float a bit, while bair just keeps ur momentum going.

And more importantly, you only get ONE floaty forward B per jump, and it doesn't come back when you grab a ledge. So if you use it to grab a ledge, you won't have it if you try any tricky ledge-hopped shenanigans.

Ya Shai Hulud makes a good point. If you want to grab the edge without wasting time turning around, just slide off with a wavedash. It's the fastest and safest way, provided you're a proficient wavedasher.

^i am, but has anyone had the problem of wavedashing back, and then not grabbing the ledge (you just fall off)? its when you are far away from the ledge, and dont have time to run there->turn around and then wavedash.

and, your floaty upb you can keep if you sh-forwardb onto the ledge and touch the edge of the ground before you grab.

Yeah, if you do a long wavedash when you are close to the edge you will just fall off. But you can wavedash whatever distance you want <= perfect wavedash. Just tilt more toward down to decrease your distance.

well, you can still fall off with a short wavedash -_-.

what im saying is that you cant run to the ledge turn around and wavedash, it just takes too long. so, use a reverse edgehog instead.
its for when you have to set up a edgehog and you are like, on the other side of the stage.

mark, this technique has already been discovered and you can see pros like Ken use it occasionally. Smash has been out long enough that anything you can imagine has already been discovered. How you use all these things can make you a better player, however.

Use the bair to turn around - it's faster and reserves your forward + B.
