Mario’s archetype is sort of a character that is rushdown, since he can combo heavy characters and regular characters pretty well. Only problem is that he lacks range on his attacks, so characters with range are his weakness.

Falcon has a good portion of Mario’s playstyle. Not necessarily biased towards Falcon or anything, but the only real problem with playing him is his susceptibility to projectiles, and moves like Raptor Boost sometimes missing when it’s not supposed to.

I think it's a character that can get in close and land attacks but also has long range maneuvers that can keep foes at bay.

So a close range fighter with long range ability.

I think of Mario as having some difficulty approaching sometimes, and sometimes struggling to kill, because in order to kill, you have to use a raw option, like an aerial or smash attack. But he has long, high damaging combos, ladder combos on stages with platforms like ps2 or battlefield (that can kill with up special if close enough to top blastzone and at high enough %s), and a fairly versatile moveset that covers a lot of things. Cape slows his fall and reflects projectiles while also being able to turn around opponents, and flood is good for stage control. While his recovery isn't superb, it can be good at being mixed up.
