Why are the racers SHY GUYS? Where's the Mario Kart characters?

Yes it would be illogical if Mario drove by while fighting at the same time...

BUT YOU HAVE HAVE FOUR MARIOS FIGHT AT THE SAME TIME ANYWAY SO WHATS THE DIFFERENCE?!
