Because really StarFox like the way it is works only as a continuing reboot. Lylat Wars was basically a reboot (remake). Adventures is a spin-off with just the end that ties everything with the original storyline. Assault and Command are nice as sequels, but they don't offer that many differences as story and character development.

A reboot with a more mythology-filled background, a more deep characterization of the environment as of cities/planets and inhabitants, and a better character development (maybe more mature?) is the way to launch this series again if you ask me. If they just make a Lylat Wars 2 HD it would be cool don't get me wrong, but only for nostalgia's sake. It would make the fans happy, but the non-fans un-interested, and the franchise would die, again...

I've been thinking about a reboot for a while now, I think the original set is OK, but they need to expand it, a lot. It should be an AAA title like Zelda. Free roaming on different planets on foot, like Adventures but better, would be great. Just imagine walking around Corneria not blasting stuff like in Assault, but talking to people, buying things, making quests. Also I liked the strategy involved in Command, even if really basic. I would love to see something like preparing the positions of the StarFox team before a mission, if not on rail like some levels in Lylat Wars. Also you can bring new mercenaries in your team if you pay them enough or if you do a favor to them. I remember how the Great Fox was all broken in Assault because Fox's was "unemployed". It would be incredibly cool if you had to maintain not only the mercenaries, but the Airwings too. Anybody has seen the TV show Firefly? Something like that would be awesome. Also, if in a mission some of your mercenaries dies, he stays dead like in Mass Effect...

The more important thing I'm interested in anyway is the storyline. I want the new SF game filled with cutscenes and well-written dialogues. Not the same old "Do the barrel roll". The possibilities are a lot really, they just have to find a great studio capable of doing this (Retro Studios, Platinum Games).
I had ideas similar to this except I'd like a choice to play as characters other than Fox, and I'd like it to be more action based and where I decide if I want to do a mission using the Arwing, Landmaster, Blue Marine, or go it on foot. As for playing as other characters, StarFox is the name of the team, not the character. I think playing as other characters in their own role in the story on each planet would greatly up the replay value, and you could have the ability to recruit characters like Bill, Katt, Dash, and there could even be a mode where you can play as the StarWolf team.

As far as story goes, I'd rather it take an approach that's not too serious, or rather serious game with humorous undertones.

Anything from Command should be skipped. The game didn't have any true ending, nor was it well received. There's no reason to keep it in the canon, Marcus included. I could see it as a palette swap for Fox, but nothing more. Maybe even a "Melee-Daisy" palette swap like Peach had where it actually changes a little more than just the colors of the costume.

This.

It really is a shame how much potential the franchise has. The only ones I trust with making a SF game now is either Platinum Games, Retro Studios, and IMO Kojima(gameplay, story, humor, artstyle etc...).

I'm betting that Retro Studios is working on a Star Fox game. We know their secret project is something that "everybody wants", and there hasn't been a Star Fox game since Command. Command went with the split ending and the reception to the series' games post-Adventures has been lackluster, so I think a reboot with the original cast is a high possibility.

That said, I think Star Fox is represented in Smash just fine with Fox and Falco. Hopefully they can give the latter some unique moves of his own.

Yes I considered the idea of playing as more characters too, that would be cool. Maybe a campaign with the StarFox team (Fox, Falco, Slippy, Peppy) and one with the StarWolf (Wolf, Leon, Pigma, Panther). And maybe a new team, why not, hoping it doesn't come out like new Sonic's characters or Sonic '06.

What you say for the story is true, something like Jak & Daxter, or Sly Cooper should work. I want to be epic though, with a lot of twists, cliffhangers maybe. A trilogy should work well, if you ask me.

Command was a nice game overall anyway, the best post-Lylat Wars imho. Obviously all nine endings were non-canonical, but some of them could be re-used. Something like in the first reboot Andross is defeated, and in the sequel we see the rise of Oikonny first and Dash after, which could be the main villain of the third installment. Something like that. They should bring back Krystal too but after a bit, since it's a reboot. I mean if they just re-use the story of Lylat Wars for an HD remake, I would incredibly disappointed... A remake of a remake of a remake of a game... We had enough

A pallette swap of Fox, and maybe Wolf as well. And maybe a trophy and/or a sticker of Marcus.

I'd be perfectly happy with Command as a whole being retconned (or at least deemed non-canon) including all the filler Command-only characters. And never have them visited again (though personally I like Dash). I don't expect Command to be retconned without taking Adventures and Assault with it though (and honestly I don't even see that happening), so in spite of my dislike for Marcus (and pretty much every character from that game), it would be cool to see him as a colour swap or something. Because having a blue Fox would be cool, and we're not going to get that other blue fox. ;)

As a playable character? No.
