I was. I marched in the Rose Bowl parade, scored the highest on UIL for several years, and almost went to state several times.

It's lame

well I think its awsome. sure it takes away my social life but still. I have alot of friends in the band.
I bet they're lame too

I love Band >.>

I played the tuba. I'm a short asian, not your stereotypical fat white guy. It was hilarious.

The Tuba was bigger than myself.

I've posted in about 10 of the ones we've had.

I marched drums for 3 years at my high school. Marching Band we were number 2 drumline in the state, because our band was so much smaller and thusly looked down upon, brining us down. In Indoor percussion, we were number 1 for 4 years and 5th at World Champions in 2005. Once I went to college, I stopped playing drums and marching band (the band here sucks, sorry MJS), because I wanted to have my last band memory be me playing for a full stadium of people.

I'll be going to music school after I get my degree.

I marched all through high school. It's not easy, I'll vouch for that. It's still pretty lame, though.

Jazz band, now, that's another story.

Just because something's not easy doesn't mean it's not lame. That being said, I have no opinion on Marching Band, I don't think we really have them in high schools in Canada.

When I was in band, I played the Bass Clarinet. We had to march for the homecoming parade, and for some reason, they made me march with a fricking Bass Clarinet.

It was only 3 miles, but I never did it again.

Yeah, I did marching band all through high school, and I'm doing it in college now. While I have a lot of fond memories of it from high school, the real reason I'm doing it in college is for a scholarship.

My school's marching band didn't actually march. It was called "Pep Band". We sat in the bleachers and played, and during half time we played a couple songs. No drumlines, no fancy choreography; it was pretty lame.

Also, we wore band t-shirts. We didn't even have a uniform with fluffy hats.

I got out of marching band when all my instrument-playing friends were leaving it one by one. I realized only total dweebs are in the marching band (at my school, at least).

It is not lame at all!

Marching in Finals at Grand Nationals is awesome. Very awesome. Anybody who says it's easy is a fool.

Yeah. I play the Trumpet in my marching band. We got grand champion in a competition last year and I hope to get it again this year.

I'm a Bass Clarinet player (retired) and I know how you must've felt like. I've never done marching band though, I mostly played in a school group where we sat and played film's scores, classical pieces and jazz.

Coolest song I did was Overture 1812, grade 500. That was something...

I play the french horn, which I think isnt in the marching band, either that or my school just hates the french horn. but yeah, professional marching band can be pretty sweet.

The colorguard that accompanies the band is better.
Before anyone says anything about me sayint that because it's made up mostly of females, shut up. I plan on joining my school's colorguard next year. (prepares to be laughed at)

Of course, the marching band is still good. I'd think a hell of a lot better of the whole lot of them if one of them would play Free Bird.
Who cares if it has vocals? IGNORE THE VOCALS THEN.

Just so you know, I think most of the songs that marching bands play have vocals. The vocals are always ignored (or rather, given to the trumpets or saxes).

That's exactly what I just suggested they do for Free Bird.

My girlfriend is in MB, so she drags me to some of their performences. I swear to god, next time I'm yelling for them to play Free Bird.

Eh... Colorguard doesn't interest me that much. Not saying that they don't do hard work (they do!), but when I'm watching a band I usually pay attention to the hornline and pit. I'm a music person. :p

BTW, I went to a contest last Saturday, and there was a band that played Free Bird.

My wife and I both do marching band here at college (except this year; we're super busy, but we'll be in next year). Marching band is definitely unappreciated by many, but it is one of the best experiences.

Also, field show marching is way different/better than parade marching. I play tuba (main) and baritone.

No sorry... I don't have a video. I don't even know if the competition will get a video... It's a new competition that was created this year.

BTW, Buzz is right. Parade marching isn't really that great. It's field marching that is the best!

...I miss it. :(

yeah my sis was in marching band all through high school. I never did it though. I play violin. She was in Rose Bowl and wants to play in Santa Clara or Drum Corps Intn. I went to almost all of her competitions though. When I was in high school, I really wanted to do guard but I didn't have enough time...too much homework all the time. But everyone stereotypes marchers as like geeks and music freaks but they're not. My sis was a band geek AND a gamer, so she was cool. And I agree with Andrew14j--field marching is definitely the best. Parades are just meh.

It looks freaking hard. I respect you bandos. But I do think it's just a TEENY bit dorky. Bandos at my school are nice, so I respect 'em.

Keep doing what you're doing. :p

Lol I'm in my school marching band right now as a Clarinet.
You guys are like "best in your state" "oh we went to nationals"
Lol we have a hard time just placing. We're not that great but we hold our own.
Speaking of which, I have a band review tomorrow I have to go to.

I'm currently in the Cornell University Big Red Marching Band, and it's been responsible for some of the best times I've had in a loooooooong time. It's an extremely tightly knit community of friends of so many different backgrounds, where everyone is so accepting of everyone else. The music we play is extremely addicting and we have traditions that go back over a hundred years. Our field routines are really cool and fun, and we get to make the other ivy league bands (and they're all stupid scatterbands) look like total crap. Our parading routine involves random things like heel-clicking, shouting "We go gathering nuts in May! WHAT? So early in the...MORNING!"dancing sousaphones that block the traffic as we cross streets, marching in funny dance-like ways, and of course our attractive horn moves to the rhythms of the drum cadences, which by the way never ever leave your head since their amazingness gets ingrained in your mind. We "aardvark" random bandies off of ladders (look that one up on wikipedia), have dinners together all the time, play crumpets, go to parties and happy hours, go on roadtrips to other schools or cities such as Montreal (as we did last weekend), and sing songs. It's pretty much like a cult of pure fun and happiness. Ok I'm done with my rant of excitement:laugh:

Summary: Band (well this one at least) is the best thing ever.

Placings not everything, my friend.

It's a great performance that makes marching so awesome. When I think of last year, I think of the awesome final performance I had, not the placement I got. Believe it or not.

*tears* aww i used to march in New Orlean (2 years before H.katrina) in my middle school, i played trumpet, and familiar hip-hop song and oldschool, screaming trumpets(playing high note exetremely loud), man i miss it

now, in florida, we no longer play hip-hop, but some, but it sounds weak, a big band would play "party like a rock star" and sound soft and consert like, wtf? too bad im now playing football for marching season
