Making a SSBB Tournament

I was just wondering, if I were to make a super smash brothers brawl tournament and wanted to have an entry fee for it so that all of the entry fees put together would be the prize what would be some problems with that in which I would have to deal with, for example since there is an entry fee would it be considered gambling or what?

Just about every tournament has an entry fee. It's not gambling; gambling is based entirely on luck. Tournaments are all about competition, display of skill, and tripping into Fsmashes.

Edit: Also, prizes usually are split to the top 3 placers by percentages of the entry pot.

many places take 20% off the top for the venue

55% for first
30% for second
15% for third

where are you planning on making a tournament?

I'm gonna hold the tournament in Hawaii
but I was thinking of charging $3 and having 2/3 of the pot go to first and 1/3 go to second plce.
does that sound reasonable?
