Mac's Angled Smashes

So as most of you know, Mac's Side Smash can be angled.
The Downward Side Smash does the most damage, but least knockback.
But what's the difference between the neutral and up angled? Because they do the same damage. Is it just the launch angle? Or a bit of knockback here or there?

One goes straight up one goes forward. Pretty simple.
