I'll cut to the chase, I love Smash, but I despise the concept of playing without items, 1 vs 1 and with a fraction of the stages since it seems to me to perfectly defeat the point of playing Smash Brothers.

Problem is this is the biggest smash dedicated community I could find, not being able to find a dedicated smash fan forum but with people who use all the options offered by the game. Basically, is there a dedicated fan forum that I may be redirected to with more likeminded people? While I'm at it, do full item, random stage and 4 man battle events even exist and if so, where?

This forum is a mixed bag. There ARE people like you, though they tend to be less active/post less.

I'm not a competitive smash player. I like casual 1v1 or 4 player matches with items on and random stages. If you ever want to chat, send me a message. :)

I am as well, though I'm leaving the site this weekend so messaging me would be kinda pointless.

But there are people like us here. The few, the proud, the casual.

While many people are not proud of that fact there were a couple of big tournaments that had items on. I believe EVO 2008 had items on for the tournament including smash balls. Of course as I mentioned people really were displeased with that. I could see Nintendo trying to host some tournaments where players use items in the first few rounds then switch to items off. Though I doubt we'll see another large tournament doing such a thing.

As far as playing with items on there is nothing wrong with that at all. Plenty of people will be trying out the new items for the game such as myself. Don't let the hype for a competitive scene deter you. We are some nice people and love items.

Yeah. There's actually plenty of casual players here and there on the boards, and there'll probably be tons in the friend codes threads when the game gets released proper.
There's also presumably plenty of tourney players that don't mind a casual free-for-all with friends either. It's mostly the loud minority that gives the impression that there's that much of an angry divide here.

I'm honestly not really a casual or a tourney player myself. I fit somewhere in a weird middle.

You came to the wrong neighborhood mother****er!

Just kidding, I guess you can say I'm a casual myself. I either play 1v1 no items with people on "balanced" stages or free for all with no items on decent stages. I'd actually like to play with items on for some fun once in awhile but no one else I play with wants them :p Never been to a real tournament, just a few fundraisers at my job that were tournies that I won ;)

Welcome btw.

funny considering that this is the smash community you would think that there would be a nice section for the casuals who are still passionate smash fans.

There's still general topics. And the For Fun mode has items on. You could go to the 3ds friend code sharing thread and post what kind of people you're looking for.

I play both ways. Especially if you're planning on grabbing the 3DS version, send me a PM and add me on your 3DS, I'd be glad to play.

Yo, I feel the same way. I'm sadly not going to have as much of a place here once the game hits.. since speculation will be gone. I don't know of a more casual forum. I can offer to play matches with you though. Add me on Smashboards if you want to exchange friend codes later (I don't have it on me)

Like Road Death Wheel said, it really is kind of ridiculous that this being the "Home of the Smash Community" we don't have a place for people who take Smash seriously, but not competitively (or maybe the opposite is more accurate?) Obviously "casuals" like you and others here aren't the same as those who simply buy the game, play it for a few weeks or so and then put it away because something new comes out. I honestly think it'd be worth it to talk to someone about this. But until the day comes when the "casuals" of the Smash community are acknowledged as important to the Smash community, this thread will probably be your best bet on this site.

Anyway, I usually play neutral stages, items off with my brothers and friends, but I am down for full on craziness every now and again so anybody here who wants to add me can go right ahead. Just PM me if you do.

I actually think you'll fit in totally fine here. I'm pretty new myself still, but looking around, I've noticed there are certainly different types of people everywhere here; some who like casual, some full competitive, and actually plenty who, including myself, will play 1v1 with no items happily and then just as easily jump into a game with items.

I say stick around the forums! There are plenty of great people here with their own preferred way to play and nobody will look down on you because you like playing with items on, it's an overall Smash Bros forum to talk about everything related to the series, not just the competitive scene.

Seriously though, I have no idea why there is so much hate between item fans and no item fans.

No item people, you LIKE classic mode, right? Items are all over that! But it's still fun! Plus you can't deny the fact that Smash is still fun 4 on 4 items on. That's where the game started and was originally intended for, so you must know effort must go in to it.

Item people, like yourself, should realize that Smash is a different game to people. Dare I say, it's a way of life. The competitiveness of it is always there, but with items off it makes it fair and to most people funner. Don't tell me you don't like competitiveness either after playing Super Mario 3D World.

I am in the middle. Personally, I prefer Smash 1v1s with no items and sometimes free for alls like that. However, when I am playing by myself I like items as they enhance the replay value. Plus, like I said above, classic mode is fun as hell.

Instead of both sides saying "HEY F*** YOU" why can't we all be frans?

Looking for a Casual Forum? Right here brother.

We're a mixed bag here. I'll gladly discuss item play anytime.

There are people here who play casually. I am one of them. But no, there isn't a forum that really focuses on the casual player.

But why can't the two just learn to play Smash the way they want to play Smash? It's not that hard.

And seeing as how we don't allow competitive vs casual threads, I will be locking this one.
