Longer names and lowercase?

I searched, and nothing came up. So what do you think? Do you think SSBB should enable you to have names longer than 4 letters and allow lower case letters? I have a good 4 letter name, but it would be better if I could use a lower case for one letter for people to understand it better. And........I know my username is long, but I at least want to put "WASUP" or something:laugh:

Opinions?

I think the four character length is fine. They would get in the way while playing if they were any bigger. It would be cool to have lowercase though.

lowercase exists in pal :p

tbh, i think 4 is fine.. it fits in with the size of the character.

No lowercase? I've got the PAL version. Try press L or R? But i agree with longer names, it should allow at least 6.

Ending your game.
Along with making it smaller, how about just make the names appear only when you are far away, like with the 1P, 2P, CPU etc. names?

I think that they should make it 5 letters long (its fun and challenging to make short names).

Also, to keepNames outta the way, put them next to the stock...

But stocks need to move too, so shrink 'em and make sure they don't comver the screen at times.

At least letters are needed for any good names. I think they should remain as they always have (in terms of play), but I don't think lower case is really important except for profiles maybe...

I think that longer names would kind of get in the way if they where above your head as they are now, but I do have some longer names I want to use. Some people have already mentioned other places to put the name, like next to your stock, or only appearing when far away, and I think that is a good idea. If they give you too many letters though it would be annoying no matter where they showed up, when one of your idiot friends comes over and decides to name his character 123456789123456789..... So maybe like six or seven letters if they put it somewhere else, but if they remain above the head I would rather just stick with four letters.

I think that we should be able to use longer name... but it would be nice if the name apeared only below the number of life remaning(this would solve the vision problem)

I like the short names, they work. You don't need a complex name either.

I pray to god that you guys asking for them to move the names don't get your way. Hard enough to tell who you are when you're playing teams.

I wanna know who came up with that crappy limitation anyways. Dont they know most people have names longer than 4 letters. Americans aren't just named jim and adam.
or sam.
or josh
or ryan
or john
or jose

I'd immagine that even though you'd have a "Mii" profile that you could still have an alternate alias in Brawl.

But as for longer names, I'd immagine that if they were any longer than four-five figures, that it would be just plain annoying during a match.

Immagine some stupidly long name obstructing the view of many other things going on during a "Brawl".

That's just me though...

With the names remaining above the player's head, maybe increase it to five characters, and shrink the text a tiny bit (ie. barely noticable)

That way, I'd be able to fit "Eaode" ^.^

Maybe a Max of 6 Characters, but too long of names would really get in the way.

My Smash name and my username on my DS is just three Japanese characters that look cool together. It doesn't really mean anything, but it looks pretty sweet, so I don't really care one way or the other about longer char. names.

For the record: PAL version has lowercase letters already, the american/japanese versions i dont know. I think they don't need to change anything, just put the names above the characters, not below the stock or something, and keep the limit 4. If your name is keroku the thunderwolf (only long name on my screen right now :D) you can just name yourself KTT or KtT or whatever. I never even use more than 3 characters, so for me the limit can be even lower.

I would like to be able to put more letters in, but I feel it would detract more than help. I'm not going to be putting in "Virgilijus" any time soon, and "VRGL" is the closest thing I can get to it (while still making a bit of sense) without putting it all down. Also, shorter names show how clever a person can be. As a wise man once said "Brevity is the soul of wit."

-_- looks dumb and people can't make out what it's supposed to sound like.

Well I think the four letter thing is okay. I mean you can pick a lot of different cool names. Plus it doesn't get in the way. Yet I think going online they will have to make the names be bigger, with the Wii profile like some said already. Lowercase? Well I never new we could use it. I will have to take a look ha-ha see if I have that feature on mine.

I use 'SNSA' for mine.

I don't mind 4 letters. It makes people be creative. On top of that, it just fits. It'd be hard to make it readable AND be 6 letters or something.

well i couldn't really even pick a name to stick so i had a few
SIN more often than others and SYNJ for most animals GOD or DOG for fox lol
DK was an exception i'd always choose the black and blue tie, whenever i could, and my name was always

SAFM - Still a F@cking Monkey

People I play tend to underestimate DK when fighting against him, so they'd say things such as, "man, you just got shined at 101!!" On my way back i'd always say, "i'm still a f@cking monkey" regardless of whether or not i lived afterwards

This time around for that DK I feel like i'm gonna level up and evolve it into two diferent

iSafm or some variation (I'm STILL a f@cking monkey)
iRafm or iRaFM (I rep a f@cking monkey, I'm Repping a F@cking Monkey)
iRafg or IRAFG or some variation (I'm repping a f@cking gorilla)
