In melee, some characters didn't make sense, like ness or the Ice Climbers. This only means we can predict who may be in brawl. For instance, Professor E. Gadd has a fair shot of getting in brawl because Dr. Mario wiggled his way in melee. We can also excpect King Dedede in brawl because zelda was in there. Maybe even an arcade game character will make it in in place of Mr. Game and Watch.

Any other ideas?

Ice climbers were from an OLD nintendo game, Earthbound a cult classic, so both ness' and the inclusion of the Ice Climbers made perfec sense (ignoring the fact that they were probably fillers for the roster, same for Dr. Mario). That being said, I expect a Belmont (Castlevania), Pheonix Right, or Dr. Stiles (Trauma Center) to make it in for at least one third Party slot due to popularity. Maybe even Alex from RCR since that game's a cult classic. As for First party characters, maybe Toad and Geno or some of Koopa's kids (Wendy, Ludwig, etc) from Mario, Midna (imp/human) from Zelda, The Eggplant Wizard to compliment Kid Icarus. Maybe a few Punch Out Characters (Little Mac/King Hippo preferably) and Ridley would be kickass.

I dont know about midna... but there will of course be a few unlikely characters in there...
probably some obscure japanese ones too whom we have never heard of ...

Ness is a classic nintendo character. Ice Climbers are retro chars, so there's nothing wrong with them being in. And how is Zelda anything like Dedede? Dr. mario was a Mario clone. E. Gadd would need an original moveset, which would be tough. I'd prefer Olimar to E. Gadd because he could have a good moveset. And the most likely arcader to replace G&W is Pacman, who, being a 3rd prty char, must compete with Sonic and Megaman.

Plz stop making random threads, read some other posts and get up to speed 1st.

IMO, I think Olimar is a shoe-in. Two successful and popular games? A chance to make a revolutionary new character? I think he'll be in... Melee was excellent because it had a nice balance of diverse characters. You had a 2d character, a character that was actually two people, two puffballs, and a character that doesn't walk, but hovers (Mewtwo). Melee offered enough character options to satisfy nearly everyone. Olimar could use his Pikmin to creat a whole new and fun playing experiance, which i think Nintendo would want above all. Same goes for an E.Gadd (using the FLUDD?).
We all loved Melee, but to just rehash the same game with a few new characters and items would do a diservice to the Smash Bros. Franchise. Smash 64 was revolutionary, Melee refined it, and Brawl will expand and refine Melee (at least, we hope).

one thing is for sure. No matter how much we can speculate, there is definately going to be at least one character in Brawl that NO ONE will see coming.

ok first of all he's talking about ness and ICs not being what everybody expected . and zelda is kinda like the 3rd (or 2nd or even 4th) zelda char that was added in melee so they could add 2 or more kirby characters. hes mentioning doc and e gadd cuse they are quiet similar. and olimar is nothing like e gadd for the matter(except for being 1 generation cube game characters) and yeah sonic is more likely than an arcade classic but isn't than what he was just making a point on. that the LESS likelier characters were making the cut?
so this thread isn't random after all now is it?

Thank you, RVD.

I don't it's that less likelier characters are going to make the cut. There are characters that are merely speculation at this point, but will likely end up in Brawl. I think the point is not that the less likely character will be in brawl, but that there'll be characters that will have people saying "WTF". For melee, it was G&W. He came out of left-field. And had they not announced him in the trailers, Pit would've (and did) shock us.
Fear not. Sakurai's got some more tricks up his sleeve, guaranteed.

What I'm saying is that how do Ness and IC not make sense? Dedede is an enemy of Kirby, while Link and Zelda are on the same side, so he shoud have used Ganon as an example. Dr. Mario and E. Gadd are both professers, but that's all they have in common, and as I know from Pikmin, Olimar is also a professer himself. The thread is called likely deductions, but I don't follow how what he's saying about who will and won't get cut. And to top it all off, this is in the wrong forum and I'm pretty sure there's already a bunch of thread's about this.

Visiting from above.
Your logic doesn't make any sense. You're just throwing random characters out there because you don't understand why some characters made it into Melee.
