I tried this with Link once....I ended up changing the animation from the ground Spinattack to the mid-air version. While the switching of the animation looks awesome, I fell to my doom. Fun to watch if you screw it up though.

It'd be awesome if it worked every time, but I'll have to try it out and see...cause falling to my death and throwin away one stock sounds risky.

If it turns out to be as bad*** as it was in melee, that'd be sick.

this is extremely useless and has been known since melee

it was only useful in melee because you could hug the wall, but since hugging is in brawl why would you even try this? if you do the up b too late you spin to your doom while canceling the up b.

stick to speed hugging

something actually kinda similar is if you up b near the ledge and hit someones shield with it, you get pushed to a ledge grab. i think this might be one of the few moments an up b would be strategic in a match other than a roll counter.

This happened to me while practicing the Edge Slash. Happened a lot. But the edge slash just looks flashy. And it's cool. But useless.

Just curious, if you master the timing for this, why is it not useful as a way to guard the edge against, say, Wolf or Mario recoveries?

because instead you could speed hug and then zair edgeguard

this technique was only used in melee to do a semi-hug, now that hugging is in the game spin hogging is useless

Good question. Brawl people fail to realize the art that made up melee. Pros will be using these "useless" techniques because they can. They are stylish, fun when mastered, and separate you from the people who still get worked by you yet.... find the tactic that just killed them.... useless =)
