Limited online play good for the community?

I Might be over thinking this but doesn't limited online play mean good things for us? because if they only make the online play 1 on 1 won't they improve exactly that; the 1 on one 1 part of the game to meet op to other major online games.
so if we say it'll be only 1 on 1 i think they'll focus most of they're gameplay around 1 vs 1 gameplay and maybe add more features and levels based on 1vs one matches like more variable simple stages and more fair items.
please discuss.

Er... where did the idea come from that SSBB would be only 1v1 online?

Sakurai has said that they where having major issues putting the game online and that if it was online the online play would be very basic

I did remember hearing that, but they'll might put something extra on Brawl.

That could mean anything from limiting the available items and stages to making the online combat less complex.
It hardly confirms 1v1 online.

AND smash is NOT a lagish game so no lag.
A ... laggish game?

Internet connection affects lag, not the game itself... starcraft isn't a ''laggish game'' if you play 1v1 or over a LAN, but if there are connection problems between two users than there will be lag even if you're playing NES mario with someone over an online emulator >.>

**** that. You guys are basing this too much on competitive Smash. If my Smash Bro's is going to be online, I want ALL the bells and whistles. All the items, all the stages, all the characters and the max number of players. If a gamer wants 1v1, give them the OPTION TO REQUEST A 1V1. Don't force someone who just wants to play with a few friends.

TC, you make no sense. How could main gameplay be changed for 1v1 even IF they focused online on 1v1? (which also makes no sense)

With all do respect, Nintendo wouldn't be facing such a dilemna if they atleast gave Online capabalities a decent run for the GameCube. Mean seriously, literally 1 out of 100 GameCube games were online, even so - they were empty. Now Nintendo are lagging behind on Online capabilities, they don't exactly know what they're doing.

Sure, they've got the DS - But most DS games have random races and friend codes don't work too well.

I don't think online capabilities will be too good at all for Brawl...

Actually the game also has an effect on lag... If the netcode is not well done, there will be lag.

Connection still is the number 1 factor though.

thats exactly what im hoping for items and stages that WORK on 1 vs 1. and in mario strikers you can team up with another player by your side and take on 2 other players online.

Well, I got the impression that you thought that 1v1 and 1v1 only would be good for the community. It would be good for pro players but not everyone wants to be pro. I'd want to do an FFA Bob-ombs and green shells match every now and then.

PS: Sure, PSO wasn't empty. It was still the only online game for the Cube, though.(Phantasy Star Universe for Wii! Please?)

Haha who would expect this but I agree with you. Just because I am 110% competitive smash and consider it the true way to play I do NOT approve of a system that wouldnt allow people to play with custom settings online. As long as there is an option to play both ways no harm can be done.

I disagree completly! Nintendo steps in produceing online games has incresed in leaps iand bounds. Noone is just really looking at it beceause Friend codes annoy them, But you cant say after a few starfox matches over Wi-Fi that the there innernet is bad.

Also to combat your argument about the random players, I don't know why thats bad. Halo has random players, but that doesent mean that its bad, infact I've heard its the best online shooter there is! (I havent played many if ANY online shooters, but my friends are Halo nerds >.>; )

Its not that the system doesent work well, its the players who don't want to waste 2 minuttes of bthere time entering in a simple 8 digit code. >.>; Which can sometimes be eayser to enter in some of the more innernet savy layers whole names, if ya know what I mean! XD

There's a difference between LAN and online.

If you had a tunneling program, you could probably play both of them 'online,' but they weren't designed with netcode in mind.

I think they meant stuff like no leaderboards, no ranks, no lobby, no voice chat, no uber custom games [like damage ratio, handicap etc.].

I think they'll make it with 4 player in mind and people can play 1 vs 1 if they want.

well that limitation could also mean good things for us.I think that any drawback is replaced with an add-on(yes I'm a positive person:))

They did say this, back when it was first announced that they'd be taking things online. Since then, however, they've shown us Mario Strikers Charged online play, which has ranks and leaderboards. Voice chat will come in time I'm sure (even if it is crappy like the DS's). Lobby, wouldn't count on. The custom rules, however, might go either way. With Strikers, Nintendo allows for you to turn 'cheats' on or off, meaning I'm sure that they would allow for items to be turned off, also. They also allow an option for 2v2 or 1v1, ranked or unranked, etc...

I don't think the shotty online will really affect the community at all. The fact is that online will be laggy, or at absolute least more laggy then in person, meaning it won't truly be able to compare. Most true tournament players will still attend, for a few reasons:

1) No lag, as afore mentioned.
2) The community is golden, and if we're unable to communicate with others online, it's honestly worth the drive to talk to some of the fine people that play this game.
3) The competition will be much better.

That's about all I got...

(Also, if you want to see my full coverage of the Mario Strikers Online thing [I watched a fairly long/extensive/detailed video on it], ask and I'll post it in here, too.)

I think that lag is sad but unavoidable which in my opinion is what will keep this community as strong as always.
Just like you said Sensai.

Halo is a prime example of that. XBL is good and all yet MLG hosts Halo tournaments so I think it's stay to say Smash will follow suit.

Lets just hope that Brawl stays on the competitive side and maybe MLG will pick us up again and now with more force than ever.
But hey we kinda know that some of the advance techs in halo will be dropped like every thing including dropping lag with the x button, and thats being replaced with some other advance stuff so i think its bound to happen in melee too (but if they touch the tech or l cancel...).
we know that Sakurai isn't stupid and like i said in an earlier post of mine i think that every drawback will be replaced with an add-on.
