Light-shield problem

The "L" button on my controller keeps light-shielding after I do wavedashes. It's not a bad habit of not letting go enough of the button. I can WD consistently without any light-shielding probs whatsoever with other controllers. Also the "R" button works perfectly fine.

Now, I would really like to avoid having to take my controller apart for this since I suck at that stuff, and I've only got one controller (and it's quite hard to get new GC controllers in Norway (or anywhere) in 2010).

My friend have encountered the same problem, but it was only temporarily. Same with mine actually (it would be perfectly fine for a few weeks, then suddenly start light-shielding again). Though it have been really bad lately. It kinda used to wear of, after a few hits and shakes.

Is there any smart method used to solve this (I'm thinking to maybe grease it up with oil in case theres something stuck in there) ? Does anyone else have experience with such problems?

problem with the slider, disarm your controller, search for the slider of the l button, put it up and rearm your controller, thats all

additionally if water has worked its way into where the slider is on the PCB, it can rust it out enough to **** it up. happened to my best ever Fox controller and I was pissed.

I use R as well.
Keeper you don't count you use samus
You can wavedash with the cstick
I actually am a Sheik main. I'm just a Metroid fanboy and therefore use Samus as a secondary. I use R for every character and only use L to homing grapple.

Keeper you count
Because you main sheik.
But as a serious suggestion, using the R button makes me feel better than when i used to play with the L button. I like to unitask with my left hand and do everything else with my right hand. It makes me learn to play faster. I can SHFFL uairs without the cstick ebcause the joystick feels a lot more natural.

hold the controller side on, mash the affected button(s), hold the button down and try to scrap any gunk out from around the side, mash it again a few times, blow in it.

should work now, 90% of my controller problems have been caused by gunk and dirt

Well it seems I should try to disarm my controller then. The only problem now is that i need a special kind of screwdriver with 3 tips/tags/points/whatever it's called instead of 4 (excuse my English). That's not normal for Norwegian products so I don't have such tools. I'll get it up somehow though. Thanks for the advice everyone!

It's a Tri-Wing. You can get one from Nintendo or a dealextreme.com if I remember correctly.

If you're crafty, you can use a flathead to do it too (if that helps)

Thanks! It's almost impossible when I use the flathead so that link you sent helps a lot!

THIS is the easiest way. You don't even have to take the controller apart (although that would allow a permanent fix)

When you are plugging your controller in, hold down the L button just slightly. That will reduce the light shield sensitivity a bit. It will stay like that until you unplug your controller or restart the game.

The problem is likely that the spring is not popping the trigger back up quickly enough. My fix is just to recalibrate the slider.

The trick to using a flat head is to push inward while turning. You may need a small rag to hold the screwdriver if you notice your hand slipping. Once you take out the screws for the first time, they are much easier after that. They just get crusted on.

Oh yea I forgot about that weird function of the GC controller (I remember using it to practice the lowest laser with Falco on a crouching jiggs) . Thanks, you saved me some trouble man!
