"Her name is H'aanit, and she is a Hunter.
One of the last descendants of the proud and ancient clan,
she makes her home here in S'warkii, deep in the Darkwood."
- Octopath Traveler Opening Description
WHO IS H'AANIT?
H'aanit is one of the eight main characters of the recent hit JRPG on the Nintendo Switch "Octopath Traveler". She is a huntress on a quest to find out what has happened to her master after he left on a hunting mission. She is a cool, confident character that stands out from her peers from her moveset potential and unique design.

WHY SHOULD SHE BE IN THE DLC?
Like I mentioned above, H'aanit stands out among her peers with both her design and her unique playstyle in Octopath Traveler. Her unique ability to summon both her companion Linde (a snow leopard) monsters to help her fight and to aid her in combat with buffs and healing. Starting out as the Hunter class, H'aanit primarily uses both Bows and Axes, two weapon types that have gone largely underused in movesets aside from just being relegated to special moves (like the Links and the Belmonts).

Furthermore, the Hunter class comes with a select list of skills that can help add more of a unique playstyle to H'aanit. ranging from traps and self-buffs.

WHY SHOULDN'T SHE BE IN THE DLC?
Mostly the same problem that characters such as Rex also had. She's too new. Octopath Traveler is too recent of a game, having been released in July of 2018. Also being a Square property and going by how Cloud has been treated in the game, we might not be getting a Square Enix character for some time.

Also, her way of speaking might put some people off.

HOW WOULD SHE PLAY?

Again, going off of the Hunter Class and H'aanit's unique skills, she would have something akin to a zoner/trap-based character with a few ways to set the opponent up for a devastating hit. Bellow is the rough idea on how I think she would play.

Neutral B "Rain of Arrows": A Chargeable move. The longer H'aanit holds down the "B" button, the more arrows she'll fire in an upward arc. Lightly tapping the button will only fire one arrow. Holding it down for more consecutive seconds will fire up to 4 arrows. A great zoning and pressure tool to keep the opponent where you want them to be.

Side B "True Strike": In Octopath Traveler, True Strike deals critical damage with a single bow attack. In Smash, True Strike will deal higher percent damage but can only be fired in a straight line and can be easily dodged. This move can be used to capitalized on trapped opponents or used in edge guarding.

Down B "Leghold Trap": H'aanit's primary trap move. She'll lay down a trap to hold a character in place for 2-4 seconds (depending on the percent damage) and allowing her to capitalize with a powerful Smash Attack or a well-placed True Strike.

Up B "Thunderbird": In OT, Thunderbird was just a simple spell that delt lightning damage to the selected foe. In Smash, H'aanit summons a bird made of lightning to help carry her back up to the stage or ledge. Travels as high up as Captain Falcon's up B.

Up Smash: Similar to both Ike's and Ganondorf's Up Smashes, but with an Axe. keeps characters from jumping on from dodging her projectiles.

Side Smash: H'aanit summons Linde and commands her to use "Pounce". Linde will jump out of nowhere and tackle her target.

Down Smash: H'aanit Summons Linde and commands her to use "Sweep". Linde appears around H'aanit and sweeps her class around her friend. This will help keep opponents away from H'aanit if they get in past her zoning.

Draefendi's Rage: H'aanit summons her companion Linde as the leopard dashes in a straight line and sends hit characters into a cutscene. The hit characters stand in their dizzy stances while H'aanit charges her BP to max. Then, she unleashes a powerful Bowstrike dealing high knockback damage.

H'aanit would make for quite the character, and I really enjoyed reading through your breakdown. Octopath is a fantastic JRPG that deserves recognition, what better way than inclusion into Smash? Of the 8 protagonists, I agree, H'aanit would be an ideal fit.
Unfortunately, for the reasons you already acknowledged, Octopath will probably not be represented in Ultimate. Maybe they can at least add some spirits in?

One burning question: You have a quote at the top of your post -- did you intend to reference Smash Wii-U?
Thanks for sharing, good stuff!

Oh, that was left over from a format I used for another thread.
