Let's talk about the ACT Test

Okay, so I'm getting ready for college, and I recently got my results back for the ACT. I got a 27, and I'm reasonably happy with the score, but I know I have the capacity to do better. I am normally an overachieving student, and this actually hurt me on the test. I've been taking alot of advanced courses, and I hadn't covered the test subject matter in so long, that I was "rusty". I also had a internship where I was working almost full time hours, so I didn't have much time to study. If I can improve my score to say a 31, I could get a full ride tuition to alot of major colleges. I'm not sure if it's worth the stress, and all the cramming to try and take the test again. Advice please?

Also, whatever other ACT (even SAT I gues....) things you guys wanna talk about, stories, scores. It's up to you.

Peace Out.

The 25 minute essay is harsh. You pretty much need to make it four paragraphs, and have a preset quote to get your intro running with no pre-planning.

I got a 35, btw :)

Dude, a 20 will get you into any non-selective university. So, unless you want to go an uber selective school, I really don't see what the problem is.

I just retook the ACT (Got an 18 last time) looking for a 22 this time round. Anyway, the only test I didn't feel confident on was the Math, the other three test HAD to had been at an 8th grade level.

Yeah, you need to be prepared for the essay. The first time I took the new SAT (I took it the year when it was still optional, so I took the old, too), I didn't have time to write a conclusion, so I lost a bunch of points. I decided to take it again so I could do another essay, and got full credit the second time. Ended up with a 2100 altogether, which I was happy with. My friend got a 1600 on the old one and then a 2360 on the new.

Is 35 the highest possible score on the ACT? I don't know much about it

A 27 is plenty good enough.

I unfortunately got a 23. Waking up late, not preparing for the test, and forgetting to bring a calculator were the causes.

First try was 14..... I hate how more than half of the ACT is english, I've never got an A in english nor did I enjoy it because I don't feel like reading **** or writing on paper, lol. If it was nothing but math and science, I would pass it with a 100% and it will be easy. The second try was 31.

As far as the ACT goes, I took it and got a 23. I could have done better, but the Math part ***** my face.

I got an 18..bleh.

Ah well, 22 was the minimum for the college I wanted, and I've already gotten accepted, so SCORE!

I'm not sure why colleges put so much credit into good SAT scores.
The way I see it: sure they reflect accuracy, work ethic, and have a general correlation with success, but its just a reasoning test.
For example, the point of writing is to communicate, often to persuade, but the graders are looking mainly for organization.
Anyone think differently?
ACT makes a little more sense. It has science in it.

The science is a joke. The entirety of the science section is reading data presented in various types of graphs and charts.

^Which is funny because the science section is what most of the kids at my school do bad on.

Also, a question. Lets say you take the ACT once and you get a 25. You then take it again and do worse. Would they take the highest score? Or the most recent one?

I took it on the 25th and STILL haven't gotten mine back. My application was due on the 1st of november too. It's rediculous.

It doesn't really matter too much, since i did pretty well on my sat, but i really want to see my score.

Can someone explain to us non-American's how the system works. Over here ENTER scores are done based on how everyone else does i.e. I got 93.1 which means I did better than 93.1% of people. I'm not sure how it works with your system so an explanation would be much appreciated.

Lol, our system works the exact same way with SAT tests my good sir. It's the ACT tests that work differently. The ACT takes your composite score from 4-5 tests(Depends on whether you opt to take the writing test or not), and ranks them on a scale of 1 to 36. In my case I scored a 27 which put me at 89% overall. I'm not sure how they actually compile all the data though. Hope it explains some of it at least.

Thanks. Geez education can be a cruel and unforgiving business can't it? Wait why doesn't the US use a 100 point scale? I suppose it's no different from the imperial system logic :p

They take the highest; no worries.
