Nah, family doesn't know about it still. I told a few of my friends and they're completely cool with it, but my family still doesn't know.

I don't think they know about the existence of the show's fandom either, my family doesn't really seem to know about common Internet culture aside from certain terms such as "trolls". My concern isn't them knowing about the fandom, it's just what they might think if they know I like the show so much....

I've never talked about ponies with my friends aside from telling them that I liked the show for the first time, since I know they're definitely not into it at all, I don't want to go overboard with it and annoy them. Still, they do know that I like it and aren't bothered by that fact in the slightest.

I'm just worried my family would think I'd be "going weird" for liking a show for a longtime thing intended for little girls....it's not like they'd suddenly hate me, not at all. They're very reasonable and deeply care for me. I'd just feel very awkward for a very long time if they knew....

Well man, you can't let fear take you away from doing what you love. The only reason I haven't told mine is because they'll kick me out of the house (they've threatened me that for less) but I've been looking for a way to tell them for a long time. I'm fortunate enough to have several irl brony friends who are willing to back me up,

The most I do with the show other than watch it is make stuff in GMOD like my profile pic (yeah, I did the posing and took a screenshot of the pic I'm using right now) have never wanted to get merchandise related to show or anything, but I have always desire to try my hand at fanart. That's how I've been with a lot of things though, I've wanted to do fanart of a lot of things I've long liked (like the Lion King for example) but even if I was good at drawing I couldn't really risk joining sites dedicated to such things at the moment knowing how messed up some fanart can be, from R34 to extremely dark and violent fan stories, and anything that's just plain stupid for other reasons (all of which is very plentiful on DeviantART...).....for that same reason I've never told them that I browse fanart of anything that I like either, and since I've known the true face of the Internet since 2009, I'm worried some of them may be concerned that I'm suddenly into weird stuff, when I'm actually not. I feel it might be very difficult to both explain it to them as well as still feel assured that they'll know I'm completely against that kind of stuff, it'd be awkward not being certain whether or not you're family is still concerned about you when they shouldn't be.

And yeah, I figured you might have a much harder time with it than me judging from what I recall you saying a few times before in the past. I hope you can find a way to tell them without it causing any issues eventually...

That's a pretty big risk for me. I can hide the pony avi while I'm on this forum (since on some pages the only way for them to see it would be to look at my profile settings near the top of the page, or at the bottom of a thread's page that I haven't posted in yet) but joining an entire site dedicated to it...I don't know. I feel pretty bad at the thought of secretly joining a website like that as well. I've never joined a community without first asking my mother about it.

I'll always be able to talk about it here though.
