Learning from theory

Because I don't get to play with as many people as I want to I learn many times from theory and i think it's not to bad of a way. Take my m2 I played with lori once and when we did pichu dittos I asked him how he was so good and he told me that pichu is like m2. I totally understood what he meant and after that day I played as m2 fully understanding what I had to do and my m2 is like 3x better.

When I thought I should learn edge teching I didn't sit down and play and try to do it, I did something better I didn't. I just programmed my mind that I had to hit R whenever I hit the edge without training it i've done some fairly long techs recoveries. I learned got better from pure theory and thinking. I've done this countless times for my pichu so there is no point to talking about that.

But I think people who don't have anyone to play with theory like make it habit to press R before they sweetspot with up-B/side-B It's funny I don't even think about it and i've teched without knowing it and I was sorry I died and my hands automaticly up-B and teched again and was just staring off into space and looked up and I teched again and missed the sweetspot it was really wierd to have a habit I don't pratice.

But i think just the idea of somethings is enough to replace a few parts of tech skill.

Any other cases?

I do a lot more mental practice than actual at-cube practice. I run situations through my head frequently. After that, it really just becomes a matter of timing and execution, which are things you can't really mentally practice.

I think the way I learned most of the things I know is from thinking about how to do it. And then when I play a match with my friends I try to do it just like how I was thinking about it. But I also learn things by watching other people or videos and trying to copy what they do.

My falco got good overnight when I realized that playing Falco is just a rhythm game where you attack as soon as your out of lag. The action depends on your opponent's location: Far away, laser; up close, run in and shine; above, jump dair. Easy as pie.

I play a smarter falco more about spacing like I DD against marth and space f-tilt so if they sheild they can't grab and if they do they will get punished terriblely. Falco is underrated I think but the lasers are overrated.

Are you sure Iori wasn't referring to the garbage status that Pichu and Mewtwo have in common?

...I kid (kind of).

I totally understood what he meant in the way up-B tech skill and their projectiles and slipping inbetween the cracks to take control you can't take away ALL their options. I understood and I got waaaaaay better as m2.

also saying you play as sucks isn't a legit reaosn to you losing unless it's like impossible to win like pichu vs kirby on KJ64 kirby can't EVER win no matter how hard he trys or wants it he can't same could be said for fox vs peach on that stage. But when I lose to a sheik I carefully think about ways to improve to avoid ehat's happening I can avoid hit and I got hit totally my fault for getting grabbed. I can also land hits without being punished so it's very possible to win.

i didnt read your post
but i do agree that mental theorycrafting can be just as
helpful as actual playing. alot of my improvements have come from not playing but thinking about the game.

without theory bros. I would be a total joke mindgames like SHFF you 2nd jump backwards to jolt FF as pichu wouldn't happen. 10% and geuss games is mad useful they have run up and attack(loses to nair) or try to f-tilt/f-smash me(loses to jolt) sheilding lets you get hit both ways sheild stab or nair through sheild to upairs on sheild to combos or turn aorund grab. Forcing you to have to take away pichu's space so this doesn't happen which means you have to approach/attack but pichu's DDing games are nearly as good as foxes just shorter and a tad slower. If you miss pichu lands his hit anyways.

And this is why I ban YS.

I learn from theory almost purely, I only play a few people, none of which are near my skill level so I HAVE to learn by theory. And it really doesn't work that well. It can get your pretty far but sooner or later your going to have to stop substituting for the real thing.

of course theory can only take you so far and different people learn differently

I play against the same few people all the time and never against anyone new because I live in a small area and can't travel. I notice that I'm able to learn some technical skills and apply them usefully in matches, but I seem to stay at my friends' skill levels even though they don't use any technical skills. I think it's just because we've gotten into certain patterns that are hard to break. Does anyone else have this problem? Like no one can beat my peach, but all I do is use a few moves: down smash, shield grab to fthrow, dash attack, bair, and turnips. And then everyone gets upset because they say I'm using "cheap" tactics and stuff like that. But I watch other much better peach players play and get beat, so there's no reason they can't beat me. Anyway, I just went on a rant.

Hahaha even so it inspired him to main mewtwo in his own mind to unlock the further potential he has for PICHU and then become k.o ken times 3.

false I can't mindrape with m2 like I do with pichu I play very smart with pichu no one esle I play as compares anywhere close to the same thinking level I have with pichu. Without mindgames everyone esle is far more limited than my pichu.

But without working together with other characters your further potential is still locked within. : [
