It's end of week one. I know most of Mario's attacks worth knowing. Would it be beneficial in the long run to do this mission?
Learning a character a week doesn't give me much time to do amazingly in glory and fun.

That's 50 weeks of learning. About one whole year.
It's definitely beneficial, as long as you don't forget what can characters do.

only drawback, don't like losing to specialists all the time

I did something similar in Project M where each day (and I was playing daily) I would only play one character. It's pretty useful for expanding your knowledge, but only so far as you can manage within your timeframe against what opponents you can find. Which is to say, it'll grant competence with everyone, but I wouldn't expect mastery.

It depends on what you mean by learn.

I experimented with all the characters in about 3 weeks. Granted, I didn't really bother learning how to play them, only learning their movesets.

The ever changing era of the net also pops up with new information all the time. New techniques and strategies are found all the time, specially with this game being so young at the moment.

Man! this actually sounds like a lot of fun! I love learning new characters, but usually I only spend a day on each. You might not want to do a full week, maybe just 4 days of playing smash. That's enough to get the grips of a character, but if you want to go further and main that character, you should most definitely do a week, even more.

I'd personally just use this method until you find someone extremely comfortable to play. Nevertheless this is pretty interesting to do when trying to learn the rest of the cast.
