Laptop Monitor Problems

This should probability be posted on some other computer based website, but I figured I'd give this place a try since I already have an account and keep smashboards always open.

About two months ago, my laptop turned on in my bag coming home from school and overheated. Ever since then my monitor has constantly flickered and faded between a offwhite and black. Up until today it has been bearable and easily dealt with by simply shaking the lid until it eventually cleared up. Unfortunately, now even that doesn't seem to fix the problem.

It isn't the video card, in addition to the fact that shaking the monitor effects it, hooking it up to an external display works fine. I've disassembled it and checked all the connections and everything seems solid. I've even tried turning it on while it's in pieces and fiddling with the wire and none of them had any noticeable effects. Even slightly moving the screen still causes a lot of disturbance. The screen also seems to work better when laid flat and begins fading when tilted upright. At this point it has pretty much been narrowed down to either the LCD screen itself or the LCD inverter.

I'm really hoping that it's just the inverter, but I'm not really experience enough in this area to say for sure. My first thought was that it was just the inverter, but the fact that increasing the screens tilt worsens the problem while the inverter remains untouched concerns me.

So, yeah, I figured I'd ask here to see if anyone has any input.
Thanks in advance to any responses.

Soorry for any typoos I missed. The 'O' key oon this keyboard tends to stick pretty badly.

On a serious note, it seems to be the lcd screen itself.
