laggy tv's

has anyone else noticed the lag on LCD and plasma type tv's?

when you play on a standard tv when you press jump, you jump immediately, when you press block, you block immediately. but on LCD and plasma type monitors theres a slight response time lag between your character and your controller.

this problem is small but at the same time terrible, it messes up the timing you are used to using and makes it much much harder to avoid notorious spam.

i just hope MLG or other major tourneys dont use these "fancy" televisions and just stick to the ole' reliables

edit: is there a way to cure this lag on the overrated fancy tv's?

Tournament players already know about this. We don't use those laggy TVs for the most part. If you feel there's lag, you can probably request to play on a different TV.

i knew it wasn't just me! lol

problem is getting the ignorant small gamestores to use the good tv's- they seem to think that since it's HD, it must be better for all games

I don't see how it would make much difference for Brawl, but for Melee even a couple frames of lag can be pretty significant. I've encountered LCD tvs a couple of times at smaller tournaments but I always refused to play on them.

it makes a world of a difference in brawl, especially since the game is becoming very campy/spammy.

take for example when you are fighting a pit who knows how to curve the arrows well. normally you would either air dodge or powershield or sidestep etc the arrows, but on these laggy tv's-the timing off and you cannot dodge attacks that you should have.

this lag is very destructive when purposefully powershielding

It depends on the TV and how your Wii is connected to it. I've experienced horrible lag at this tournament at some game lounge. On my nice plasma at home, my Wii is connected via component cables and there is no lag. However if I hooked it up with normal cables to my VCR to the plasma, I feel the lag.

I've never experience lag on a CRT television though, so I don't know what it is. But it certainly isn't universal for all "fancy" TVs. Oh, I also felt the lag at the Gamestop tourney on their demo station LCD.

I guess that's true. I was thinking more of the precise timing needed for a lot of techniques in Melee compared to Brawl, but powershielding, even though easier in Brawl, is still a fairly precise tactic. In Melee there was generally a 3-frame window--I don't know what it is in Brawl but I've heard the figure 5 frames. So if that's accurate then I could see how fighting a spammy Pit could be a serious problem.

so perhaps it has to do with how many mediums the game information has to pass through before it reaches the monitor.

i havent checked the connection that our local playntrade uses for their wii, but our other gamestore directly connects to the port and the lag is still there(sometimes)

which is weird, sometimes it feels much more laggy than others- that could perhaps be due to what i was used to playing on at the time- an LCD or a standard
