Lacking Motivation To Play

Now hear me out, I'm a massive Smash Bros. fan, I love 64, Melee, Brawl, Project M and 3DS, but there's something off about the Wii U version of the game. I'm not sure how to play game the game, by that I don't mean I don't know the controls, I mean I don't know what to do with the game. 64 had unlockable characters and classic mode. Melee had extreme amounts of unlockable content and adventure mode. Brawl had SSE and unlockables. 3DS was good as a portable game, you could play the odd game against a CPU, play an online game, or do classic mode, but you expect more than that for a modern console games... except it doesn't deliver. I trained my Amiibo up to level 50 and gave it perfect stats, annnnnd I'm done with the game, I don't what to do apart from that, For Glory/Fun is rubbish and I'm not motivated to play it competitively.

Of course I can play it with friends, I could do that with the previous games, but when it comes to playing the game when I'm on my own I'm stumped on what to do. I could just play a Smash game against a CPU but why go over to a console when I can get out my 3DS or play an emulator with Melee or 64 and play those without much effort.

I used to be able to play game after game against CPUs with Brawl and Melee, but with the Wii U version, I just don't find it that fun anymore when I'm spoilt for choice with other games.

What I really REALLY don't want to do is give up and declare Smash Bros. for Wii U a boring game, what I may consider doing is give it a break playing other games and come back to it hyped. What are all of your experiences with the game so far? Are you all still hyped to play the game or is it running dry extremely quickly for others as well?

Maybe you're just burned out? I mean, sure it has new characters, stages, etc. and a new look, but at its core, it's just Smash Bros.

What I've been doing is trying to get high scores in Stadium, and just playing For Glory. Haven't played any local games yet, sadly..

I remember the first day I got it my two preteen sisters were insistent upon all three of us playing together "as a family." We spent hours playing teams on 8-Player Smash with no items, and kicking lvl 7 CPUs asses all that time did get tiring.

Once I had the system all to myself in my free time in the following days, I lost myself in Challenges, Events, Stadium, Classic, remaining unlockables, and even photo studio, which is one of my favorite parts of the game.

Eventually, my Wii U friends began getting their Smash copies. Since we're all quite busy with our coursework, we settled for playing online together over Skype for a few hours on the weekends instead of going to each other's houses. Fun times. My fiancée stayed over for two nights on our Thanksgiving break, and most of our time was well spent training her Palutena.

Yeah, I'm definitely nowhere near burned out on this game.

Sm4sh U will last me a long, long time.

I'm admittedly kinda burned out, but only because I go and unlock everything before moving on to regular play (that means doing all the modes with everyone and doing the challenges and such). Normally this isn't a draining aspect, but now that there's two versions I have to go through that very long process twice back to back, and the completely asinine challenges in the Wii U version certainly don't help.

I was going to make a similar thread yesterday. My main problem is Classic mode cheapness. I just don't care to go through it with all the characters and getting angry in the process because I lost .5 on the Intensity scale due to bullcrazy.

The other major thing is getting older = less local or friend time to play. I love Smash 4 the most, but I'm having less fun due to real-life factors.

I definitely see what you mean, I was playing Crazy Orders thinking it was a good alternative to the Wii U version's classic mode, but then a CPU got a Final Smash or something and the game was over. That pretty much put me off playing that again. Also, I see what you mean about getting older, I mean, I'm at a prime age for competitive and social gaming but even then I'm not entirely thrilled.
