To date, there are only two new Nintendo franchises being represented in Brawl: Kid Icarus and Wario Ware (three if you count MGS). Every other character comes from a franchise which was already represented in SSBM.

I'm hoping that Sakurai is just getting the newcomers from existing franchises out of the way first before revealing some new ones.

well there is Snake's franchise as well as metroid which I hope gets represented more and I wish too see less of the "top" 3 which were mostly represented in Melee (Mario, Pokemon, Zelda) which was something I didn't like because it lacked a variety of franchise representation, but I hope this time around Sakurai will include at least two chatracters from each franchise

Heh, I forgot about Snake.

But Metroid was represented in games past, as was the Kirby franchise.

I'm hoping that they're just saving the best for last in this regard, giving us the franchises which will be bigger surprises last.

That makes sense, because, honestly, how many people didn't expect Diddy Kong to be in the game?

indeed they were represented but what I meant was to see more charcters from each franchise excluding the top 3 like for the metroid franchise( Samus, Ridley, Dark Samus), Kirby franchise(Kirby, MetaKnight, King Dedede), F-Zero (Capn' Falcon, Blk Shadow .etc....

Well, so far those are the only two new franchises being represented. However, new franchises so far take up 3 of the 8 spots of newcomers. So far that is actually quite a bit. You have also got to remember that there is still a lot of time to go, and many new characters will either be reveealed along the way or on the release date. I mean, you got Captain Olimar, Mr. Resetti, and Sonic, among others. No need to wonder about new franchises now.

No argument there.

I'm glad the Pokemon Trainer will be a 3 in 1 and that all three of those Pokemon didn't take up 3 more spaces.

SSBM was dangerously close to being called "Super Mario Poke Zelda Bros." so I'm glad Brawl is at least spreading out a bit.

I've noticed this as well. I really hope sakurai actually includes more franchises than more representation from franchises. I believe the only remaining newcomers that already come from an existing franchise should be black knight, ridley, dedede, and lucas. thats really all we need. the rest should be from new franchises.

that's the good thing and I beleive is the only reason Sakurai put the Pkmn Trainer so they wouldn't take up slots and it's good that so far we are seeing a varierty, but yea Melee you have been called "Super Mario Poke Zelda Bros." lol: laugh:

None of your business.
Agreeed. There need to be more franchises represented. It might attract new players who were never smash players before.

But it's also important to expand on franchises that only have had one character in the past, like the Mother series, for example.

I guess what I'm saying is we need a good balance of existing franchise characters and new franchise characters, and I'm hoping that Sakurai is getting the existing ones out of the way first.

Actually, I consider PT to take up three slots, because there's basically three different move sets programmed n' stuff. They may be under one character on the character select screen, but does that really change the fact that their most likely programmed as three different characters who likely share the same records? The way I see it, there's already four Pokémon slots used.

Also, is there any "good" reason why a new franchise needs representation? Just because we may feel something is needed doesn't mean Sakurai does. I know there's people who feel that each of Pokémon generations needs a playable rep. While I can't say that has been proven false, I'm thinking what the fandom feels who needs to be in may or may not be that important to Sakurai, like how he de-confirmed Goroh and Dexoys.

Kid Icarus, Wario Ware, Metal Gear Solid, and Animal Crossing (Yeah, they have a symbol, they're gonna have a character in the game). That's four new franchises.

This is already better than Melee. Melee only had Ice Climbers, Game and Watch, and Fire Emblem. I'd point out the first two aren't even "franchises", unlike all the Brawl ones (Icarus is arguable).

Not to mention the possibility (Indeed, likelyhood) of even more franchises to come.

Of course, Ice Climbers and G&W haven't been reconfirmed, so franchises may be dropped. But considering they aren't "franchises", per se, it wouldn't be as bad.

It's bad because everyone wants to see more games represented. If I wanted a game of tons of pokemon versus each other, then I would have gotten a pokemon game. The beauty of Smash Brothers is that you get to see team ups of characters that don't exist in the same universe and you would never see together in any other way.

If the games just gonna be a bunch of Pokemon and Mario characters, its not as exciting to see the top characters of a bunch of franchises. Its kinda like everyone is sending in their top people to represent their universe and then they can see what universe is stronger.

I would love to have a ton of different franchises in the game ,but you have to remember that nintendo doesnt really have that many anymore. Mario, Zelda and pokemon are popular and will most likly stay popular for a LONG time to come. Metriod is hitting a second stride( before SSB she hadnt had a game out in a quite awhile) so she could have be thought of as a almost dead series. the mother series isnt really doing anything, mother three only in japan and the delays on that just kinda say to me that the series could be on its last legs. Nintendo has alot of games to draw apon but they are gonna give more spaces to the more popular games. Its just good business, but they will do fan service thats something nintendo has really been good about so keep a eye out for some new frachises to appear.

Edit: WTF, I somehow ended up posting sooner right when the board started suffering from downtime again? Basically a delayed double post on my part that I have nothing more to add at the moment... :urg:
