Peach's Castle isn't legal in Smash 64. Then again, there is only 1 legal stage in that game...
I'm guessing the teachable floating triangles and platform layout (that make approaching the person on the lower zone very difficult) are the only real competitive negatives to this very enjoyable stage. As fun as it was to play on, it might not be as neutral as say: BF, SV, T&C, FD, DH, Lylat, or DL64. Might be an okay counterpick, despite it's flaws.

You weren't able to grab the edges of the moving platforms of Peach's Castle in Smash 64, that's a HUGE difference between both.

Peach's Castle is the most legal non-legal stage though, and has been played quite a lot as a counterpick. With grabbable ledges, there's no way it won't be a counterpick here.

I'd make a fine counterpick. Not as dynamic as Halberd, Delfino, or Castle Siege, that's for sure. Every stage has it's problems, and I'm sure the platform layout/ bumper/ weird triangles won't be as drastic, stage wise, as having Rosalina/ROB/pre patch Diddy taking people to Halberd.

Here's a direct comparison:

kill % when mewtwo throws mario (who does nothing):

BF:

top (m2 uthrow)
main platform: 141
top platform: 106

side (m2 bthrow)
edge: 116*

DL64:

top (m2 uthrow)
main platform: 133
top platform: 93

side (m2 bthrow)
edge: 115

If you're interested in Miiverse stats: main platform and top platform to the top blastzone are the same as for BF, but to the side you KO at 115 like in DL.

Another thread to back up Dreamland Stats http://smashboards.com/threads/wii-u-stage-blast-zone-data.395357/

Also, @Hitaku 's thread shows that Miiverse and Battlefield have identical top blastzones, and side blastzones within 2% damage of mario's forward tilt. Also, @ Luigi player Luigi player has confirmed the platform heights are the same.

Since the stages are so similar, I don't believe that they should be considered fully different stages on the stage list. At best, Miiverse could be considered a variant of Battlefield, Omega style. That is, the person picking Battlefield can choose Battlefield and Miiverse, and banning Battlefield also bans Miiverse. For sure, Battlefield and Miiverse should NOT both appear on the starter list.

Miiverse and Battlefield should for sure be considered the same stage, the question is if Dreamland should be included as well. I say it shouldn't.

I agree with you. Dreamland is distinct in layout and in blastzones, as well as the wind mechanic, and therefore should be considered it's own stage. I think this is an important question to answer before deciding on it being a starter/counterpick

Yay or Nay for Dreamland being it's own stage? (Yay from me)

It's obviously is it's own stage. The Wind Mechanic makes it distinguishable from Battlefield.

This is honestly a pretty tough one. Aside from slightly smaller blastzones, taller platforms, and wind, this stage offers very little difference from BF. Kinda disappointed about it too, the stagelist needs more stages with bigger blastzones. I'd say the difference affect gameplay enough that it could be considered another starter, but it's kinda dubious. I say it needs some trial tournaments.

The stage itself seems slightly smaller and, while there's no VODs up for me to reference, from the stream it seemed like Whispy's wind was reduced to 2 seconds long from Melee's 4~. I can't speak at all about Blast Zones tho.
Couldn't they update the graphics or something...
