I played smash(and other n64 games) like in grade 1-3 or something. Then i was a ps2 man. Then i was pc man. Then i was a vsing only cpus on pj64 man. Then i was online playing(i had no idea about controller adaptor until a while ago). Now i have my very own n64 controller adapterless.

Uh.
My controls are
Arrows for movement(im also used to wasd for shooters :S)
A=B
D=A
W=Z
Q=L
E=R
SPACE= c

I got that space as short hop idea from cheesball and i reckon its best for short hopping.

How can you use arrows for movement when you have used n64 and ps2 controller? It becomes the complete opposite. Its like change from guitar to left guitar. You don't learn it the first day at least.

K well first of all n64 controllers analog is in the middle.. And the last time i played on one of those was when i was grade 1-3...

And the only game i played for ps2 was mgs2 and mgs3, which actually requires both analogs to be used frequently. (for people who dont massacre their way through the game that is)

And the first game i played with pj64 was ocarina of time which i used the arrows for and thats how i got used to em.

Me too. If it works for you it's great :) It's just me who can't use kb at all when I play smash.

Maddy, is it good to have both hands so close? Oo
well its a matter of attitude. for me its better. first because im used to it since beginning, but maybe also i feel faster to have the hands closer together.

@ Korobeniki/Battlecow explain me how kb beeing fair to controller is a cheat :ohwell:
ff uair is pretty easy on controller, so why not on kb -.-

well mad, KB has some nice advantages to controller, like the DI (huge advantage) so.. you shouldn't really try to "fix" the disadvantages because of the advantages-disadvantages sort of balance...

I would argue ff uair is easier on kb

But anyways, I would also say that it's cheating. Other players are forced to either practice tech skillz, or be forced to play with certain limits. You have an unfair advantage over other kb players.

Up:A
Down:S
Left:D
Right:F

A:B
B:N
R:M
Z:coma (,)
L:V
Start:Z
shorthop (c) : Space bar.

Well, that's my setup...It works perfect for me.
0_o never seen one like that before.

If that were it, then the other players would have to change, not him. But there's a sort of code about these things; you don't put autofire on, even though you techinically could. You don't program a button for FF Uairing. Why? because, like Nixxxon said, the ol' KB has advantages as well. You're not making it equal to controller, you're making it better by any reasonable measure (assuming that someone was used to both. Obviously console players would still stick with pad online). Plus, it's a slippery slope; maybe that specific cheat doesn't make too much difference, but what about giving yourself shortcuts so that you could tilt more easily, or do the walks or whatever else? There's all sorts of hax you could institute. Best to stay away from that entirely and follow the unwritten code of keyboard smashing.

Not having the "up" button actually up would be quite psychologically challenging to me.

Here's mine

W/A/S/D -> Up/Left/Down/Right (à-la-fps)
Numpad 5: C-Down
Numpad 4: A
Numpad 1: B
Numpad 8: R
Numpad 7: L
Spacebar: Z

It's great because eh, you can't grab while jumping; so my middle finger alternates between grabs and jumps, while i keep my index working on A/B attacks.
Spacebar->Z is also great because it's comfortable to do rolls with the muscle memory of just one hand.

can't see why having a button for uair/utilt would be cheating, would be a pain to have to press a whole other button just to do up stuff

of course you should lose kb hax di at the same time, to put it into perspective it would be like modding a controller to do multiple smashdi at the same time =P

i think the hori mini pad should be considered a modded controller and banned in tourney use because of the insane DI capabilities. I own a few and i love them but at the same time, there is a significant advantage DI'ing with a hori pad.

Really surprised over the amount of kb players on this forum. Seems like 10 present or less play with controller.

The Hori minipad isn't perfect though. The sticks deadzone and setup demands a high precision on a lot of movements.

Lots of people use controller. Much, much more than 10%, at least among people who are reasonable already.

I have seen comments against the Moviment Modifier on Nrage plugins. Its IMPOSSIBLE to do for example, a pivot utilt with keyboard. Its imposible. but, is possible do FF Uairs without the modifiers (in fact, is pretty easy)

You have to be already holding up before doing the pivot, and continue hplding up the whole time. I use it a lot with Pika/Kirby/Link/Fox.

If you only get good at kb, you're not even going to be good at the real thing. Kb is lame in that regard.
