Keeping the Desire Alive

I think what keeps smasher playing is the desire to get better and prove yourself at the next tourny. Well, that has always been my motivation. This makes me worry about Genesis. Genesis is gonna be amazing, and if you know me, my goals are based on Genesis as a time constraint. I think some people are playing and practicing hard because they want to do well at Genesis. But what happens after? I dont know, but a part of me will feel like I dont have much to look forward to. No doubt people have been marking genesis as their last tourny. Im worried that melee will die down once genesis finishes.

But I think there is a remedy to the scenario. Once Genesis is over, people are gonna want something to look forward to. Something to keep them practicing. Something to keep the desire alive. If have guessed it, Im talking about another BIG tournament. A month or week before Genesis, some one, somewhere in the country needs to host another one set for next summer or christmas even. This will get some people thinking that this is not the end. At least for me, Ill have another goal I can set. Another place prove myself. Hopefully someone can do it.

Those that care about this game will keep playing after genesis

while it is going to be the biggest deal in the melee community, people trained to prove themselves at things like SCC/0C3/MLGs/Pound 2/3 etc. When those things passed, people didn't quit. They kept playing to prove themselves at the next big thing.

Also, A LOT of people just love the community.
I know I wont completely stop going to tournaments until I don't have friends in the community.

Although I have noticed that people aren't talking about post-Genesis stuff.

yeah, I've wanted to quit the game many times but the community is so cool and good. It just pulls me back in every time I feel like quitting.

Don't worry about it. So long as there are people playing this game, there will always be tournaments (big or small).

Not to mention, I actually believe Genesis will make the Melee community bigger.

So regardless, just keep playing.

I agree. I haven't really wanted to play smash for like 3 weeks (outside of tournaments), I'm barely gathering enough motivation to keep trying as hard as I do.

I'm always afraid Melee will die down, even when I'd do anything in my power to keep it alive.

Bottom Line:
SOMEONE HOST ANOTHER NATIONAL TOURNAMENT PLEASE! MANGO JUICE SEQUEL!

Honestly people need to do more to get people OUTSIDE of the consistent community to attend. Send flyers around local schools, advertise on other game-related forums, etc. Get sponsors, host a set of tournaments with rankings (much like MLG or DSF's current SCSA series)

Even if they aren't the most official tournament series in the world, people WILL attend and people WILL want to get better. Also the community should try to be more accepting of newcomers. Undoubtedly there will be more noobs with even more "noobier" mindsets but in the end they add to the community and that's the most important part. There are tons and tons of people i've met that LOVE smash but have never been to a tournament, and the reason they haven't is not because they don't want to, it's because they DONT KNOW when they are. We can't expect every noob to scour smashboards for tournaments near their area, we have to make more of an effort to better the community ourselves.

I will most definitely host a series if no one else will, but I think it would be better if another already well-established host did it themselves, for the sole reason that they will jump-start the hype quicker than I would.

probably on a platform
hmmmm, kira, irvine should host, that way we have to only travel like 2 min, and since there's like a billion of us here, i'm sure we could find somewhere between all of our connections, even UCI i'm sure would be fine except for stupid parking rates

you need to realize tournaments aren't going to keep your fire alive. that's just putting off the inevitable. find it within yourself.
