If King K. Rool was in Smash Switch what kind of moveset would you want it inspired by? From DKC 1 with his crown and cape? From DKC 2 as Kaptain K. Rool or from DKC 3 as Baron K. Roolenstein?? Or perhaps a combination of all of them?

(Or DK64 with his boxer getup for the wild ones out there)
I prefer a combination kind of moveset.

I was thinking, since K. Rool would be introduced in a game unaffected by the 3DS transformation characters will probably return.


What if they did the ultimate K. Rool movest and designed him as a transformation character? He would just change outfits and every outfit change would morph his move set. That's a lot to consider and his character would be almost like 3 or 4 in one. However since his various costumed alter egos are such a large part of his charm and character i could see this being possible. His neutrals could probably remain the same but his specials could change as you switch between regular King, Kaptain, Barron, and maybe Krusher. When he changes his animation could be him glancing at the camera with that goofy grin like when he throws his crown in OG DKC and maybe he gets enveloped in smoke.

His King persona gives you his crown throw, charge, jump or manybe the cannonball drop from the air.

His Kaptain persona obviously gives you the blunderbuss which could have an entire set of special's based on it alone. With how many projectiles he fire's from it not to mention it can launch him foreword like rocket blast.

His Barron persona can play like a trap character where he uses his electrodes, maybe they could even have some original moves thrown in to expand on it.

Finally if Krusher is an option from DK64, he could have his glove toss, maybe turn invisible, the ground pound, etc.

He could certainly be a very dynamic character with am interesting gimic of being a 4 in one deal. I know thats a lot, and odds are IF he gets in he will probably be either an amalgamation of his appearances with his moveset or he will be based off one of his appearances but it's fun to imagine such a character.

I'd say a combination of all his appearances. A couple of his attacks could be from his 64 battle, Blunderbuss Neutral Special, Helipack Up Special, Boomerang Crown Side Special, Down Special...I still have to think of that one. Might have to watch all of K. Rool's battles again for ideas...

It then zooms in on both Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong who have boarded the ship. The camera the pans around before zooming in on King K. Rool. He turns around as the two Kongs prepare for battle. However, in the middle of the battle, everything blacks out, with the exception of King K. Rool. K. Rool begins looking around until a bright orange light captures his attention. He then stares in awe as the Smash Logo appears in his eyes. The next shots showcase both Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong while obscuring their faces. The camera then zooms out as everything, save for the Smash logo fades away.

What do you think K. Rool fans?

Perfect did a really good job and it was built and done well.

The perfect K. Rool moveset would be one that takes from DKC1/2/3 and DK64. All 4 iterations provide something new for him, and ignoring any of them would be wasted potential, imo. I would certainly hope that Sakurai wouldn't make up anything for the King's specials, the source material already gives him so many options.

This is fun, but I don't know if playing this version of K Rool would make the strategy behind playing K Rool in Smash feel like controlling him in his home games. I think there is a place for a transformation character, but it should be in a character who utilizes that as a core function of the game from which they came.
Instead, I'd like to see K Rool able to change his outfit by Taunt. It would just be for fun, but literally would be just the purpose of a taunt.

This is fun, but I don't know if playing this version of K Rool would make the strategy behind playing K Rool in Smash feel like controlling him in his home games. I think there is a place for a transformation character, but it should be in a character who utilizes that as a core function of the game from which they came.
Instead, I'd like to see K Rool able to change his outfit by Taunt. It would just be for fun, but literally would be just the purpose of a taunt.
I'm thinking K. Rool could have costumes instead of palettes. Give him:

King
Kaptain
Baron
Krusha
Pilot
Aztec (Sluggers)
-New one based on Tiki tribe
-New one based on Snowmads

Medusa from Kid Icarus and Captain Syrup from Wario Land come to mind, as far as recurring villains are concerned.

As far as big bads go; Queen Sectionia, Veran, Shadow Queen, Mother Brain, and Doctor Coyle come to mind

I would definetly want a combination with mostly blunderbuss attacks.
He'd have very little variety otherwise.

I just want him to be a powerhouse. I like playing the power characters like Ganon, Bowser, etc.

Do you think he'll be the heaviest fighter in the game? Bowser is currently the heaviest in-game.

Imo he should be only slightly lighter than Bowser and be the second heaviest character in the game.

The current weight list goes as follows:

1 - Bowser
2 - DK
3 - Dedede
4 - Charizard
5 - Ganondorf

I would probably want him slotted in somewhere below DK and above Ganondorf. For comparison this is broadly equivalent to Snake's weight in Brawl - this is about what I'd like to see, and I'd like to see KKR as the new "heavyweight weapons specialist" than the straight up bruiser the two above him are.

K. Rool is usually portrayed as bigger than DK in his games. I feel like maybe slightly below Bowser or maybe tied for first, and with a sizable gap from DK.

Crown aside he's the same size as DK when they're playing patty cake in the Donkey Kong 64 101% ending.

I'd love to have him look the way he did in the DKC games but with an HD skin. But he'd probably look like his newer iterations right? What do you guys think? Or maybe a new original design? Like they did with Pit in Brawl since K.Rool hasn't seen the light of day in such a long while.

A combination - mostly DKC1/2 for specials and smashes, and DK64 for his tilts.

Just please don't give us a ground pound move...
Lol my worst nightmare is the King K.Rool becomes a clone of Bowser. Like kind of how Ganondorf became a clone of Captain Falcon at first. I'd imagine Sakurai doing that if K.Rool was included in Melee. Probably unlikely to happen now though if he was included.

Since the Mii Fighter costume does have elements of the Rare design, I wouldn't mind that as his final look.

I think he could show up with an updated version of his classic design. I'm certainly hoping for it, anyway. He's been absent for a decade now, meaning there is no current status quo for K. Rool's design, with Sm4sh using both ("modern" for his trophy, classic for his Mii fighter costume). I personally prefer his classic design, anyhow - the darker green is nice and the bump mapped scales accentuate the fact he's a reptile. Plus his pecs and belly being a piece of gaudy armour rather than a fleshy protrusion a) informs his personality as the vain royalty he is b) makes more sense aesthetically than this crocodile having a random mound of flesh on his front c) was the intention, as per Steve Mayles.

The design they used for the Mii costume actually looks great. The big fleshy gut isn't as cool as shiny breastplate, and I like the detailed scales.

When do you guys think King K should make his classic (ONK) sound? When he gets hit hard or K.O.d? I love how that sounds. It adds to his character. With Bowser its always some generic roar, DK is monkey sounds, but King K is like (OOOOH!), (ONKK!), AND (UGHK!)

Do you guys think the blunderbuss will run into any issues? I mean it's clearly very cartoony but it's still technically a real (albeit quite old) gun. I could see them maybe opting to use a Kannon's cannon instead (unless they base none of his moves on his DKC2 appearance for some reason). I hope not though, we'd miss his iconic blunderbuss bash-type move.

I don't think so. Largely I recall this being in reference to Snake, and why his weapons were explosives rather than bullets. The blunderbuss won't be firing realistic ammunition so it'll be fine. It isn't really any more realistic than the ray gun, which has been a recurring item as long as I can remember.

The main concern for Sakurai with weapons in Smash, is whether or not they replicate dangerous common items found in the real world. A blunderbuss, while real, is not typically found in any child's household, and K. Rool's, while definitely carrying a resemblance, has cartoonish proportions and doesn't even fire the same ammunition. Not to mention, while a more common gun would be present in a household for protection purposes, a blunderbuss would likely be around for collection purposes, and not loaded as a result.

Another question: What do you think his entrance and win animations would be like? Do you think he'll use the DK victory theme or a remix of it?

Honestly, for an entrance, it can't be anything other than him falling from the sky and landing with that iconic thud.

New Smash game, new hype cycle, same old Kutthroats making some noise. Feels good to be home and supporting King K. Rool for another Smash game. Really hope this is his time to shine. He should have been in Smash 4, and they have even less of an excuse to not include him in Smash 5.

I think a fitting victory theme for K Rool would be the theme that plays whenever you lose a bonus round in DKC; since :4dk: and :4diddy: use the victory theme naturally their nemesis would use the failure variant


As far as battle entrances go, I really like the idea of him falling and making a thud, but here are some alternative ideas I thought of
-K Rool comes down slowly holding onto a crane like his battle entrance in DK64, waving at the "audience"
-He lies on the ground playing dead just like he does in DKC, and he then gets up, prepared for battle
-He comes in through a portal of flames, since he is a Bowser clone :troll:
