K. Rool Vs. Dedede

If only one playable slot was left who would more likely to be in Super Smash Bros: Brawl? And which would you rather have?


I think both of them have about the same chances of inclusion.

Both are 'King' villians to video game protagonists (hence, :dk: and :kirby:) who have had no other characters from their series in Smash Bros. until Brawl (ie, the inclusion of Diddy and Meta Knight, respectivly).



Of course, the guy who is running Brawl created Kirby in the first place, and I like Dedede more, anyhow, so my bets are on him both ways.

Any thoughts?

First of All, this should be in Character discussion, but w/e

Second of All, while I'd like both, Dedede is definitely a shoe-in. I hope Sakurai isn't too modest to include him.

I'm for K. Rool all the way, in fact he is the only character I truly want to see make it into Brawl.

Not to bash Dedede in any particular way, but K. Rool is just so much more interesting in my opinion.

K. Rool has various alter egos and aliases in the DK series, offering a ton of move set potential! Most notable in my opinion would be his pirate and mad scientist costumes featured in Donkey Kong Country 2 and 3 respectively. Although I can't say much for Dedede... I haven't played many Kirby games, so I suppose that makes my view a little biased. From what I hear he and Kirby share a lot of the same abilities which doesn't appeal to me.

Over all I'm willing to bet both will appear in Brawl in some form or another (assist trophy, boss, playable). I'm going to be shocked otherwise. :grin:

I agree with K. Rool. Those different incarnations of him could in fact double as costume changes. Kirby wields Dedede's hammer anyways, that's pretty much the gist of Dedede (just kidding, Dedede fans. :p).

And anyways, Dedede has the higher chance, there's no questioning it. While Sakurai is moddest with his characters, King Dedede is tied for the most requested character, if not THE most requested. He's displayed more abilities than just the hammer over the years, and has become fairly iconic.

King K. Rool leaves a bad taste in my mouth, being one of the hundreds of generic end bosses that exist int he video game world. His tendancy to play dress up aside, most of his moves are pretty lame, and the only incarnation that has anything even close to being interesting is the one with the rifle. I may be biased against him, but really, he's a horrible character.

Let's hope Sakurai's modesty DOESN'T get the better of him and he puts in Dedede.

As for K Rool, suck a lemon. Although still possible, that would be one of the worst character inclusions ever (except ya know, Dr Lobe ¬.¬)

Both are wonderful choices if you ask me, so if possible, I want them both. If I had to choose, personally, I'd rather have K Rool - the DK series really deserves 3 characters (especially when you consider that Mario originated in it, and the absolute travesty of Diddy not making it into Melee), and K Rool, as the main villain, is the best choice for that slot. Dedede is more likely though, being a much more popular selection, plus the fact that Sakurai himself created him.

Oh yeah, ideally, both would be nice. They had better look cool though, I want some good texture detail on both of them if this were to come true.

I find that Donkey Kong mostly aways gets pinned with Mario as Mario's rival whenever he appears in a game with Mario, which is annoying because while Rare gave Donkey Kong and the rest of the Kongs cool personalities, the creators of Mario vs. Donkey Kong games make Donkey Kong look like an idiot and a moron, or some sort of misunderstood ape who needs to go to anger management. (Although I do like Mario vs. Donkey Kong games, they don't do much for Donkey Kong.)

So yeah, because Donkey's been pinned with Mario and Co., it feels like Donkey Kong is just part of the Mario series, and doesn't leave much room for them to bring in characters that were exclusive to the Donkey Kong series. 'Cept for the levels, they've never ceased to pay homage to Donkey Kong Country.

Kirby doesn't get a whole lot of love either being the sole character selection for his respective series (although, he STILL get's his copy ability which almost makes up for this because of it's coolness), but at least Meta-Knight is joining the fray.

So yeah, Dedede and K. Rool would be golden. I only choose K. Rool because I have more memories of playing Donkey Kong Country then I have with playing Kirby ('cause I was never in the handheld scene and missed out on the Super Nintendo games). I instantly scooped up Donkey Kong Country and Diddy's Konquest as soon as they hit the virtual console shelves.

i like em both, but i like k. rool better. yet, i can't picture him being anything else besides an AT. dedede, on the other hand, is original enough 2 b playable. (well, he atleast looks more different then k.rool, cuz he kinda reminds me of bowser, being a reptile, but that's really the only thing they have in common.)

The way I see it, Kirby is the hero, DeDeDe is the villain, and Meta Knight is the friend or foe character who might ally with either depending on the game and scenario. It's really a nice balance between the characters if you think about it.

Look at the bolded words, there isn't a better summary of Dedede wherever you look.

Now let's look at K.Rool. Of the four recurring antagonists in the Nintendo universe, he is easily the lamest. He doesn't deserve to be in a game with the likes of Ganondorf, Bowser, and King Dedede.

I would prefer King DeDeDe to be in Brawl over K. Rool.

For some reason, to me DeDeDe seems to be a much better representation of his series. I believe that K. Rool does not bring much to the DK series.

So yeah. Go DeDeDe. :p

Wow. Nice post. I 100% agree.

I think K Rool would be very cool to have but because DeDeDe is so popular, if it was between them, Dedede would win.
