You don't have to dash first, since there's no momentum from dashing to your shorthop.

Just throwing it out there - shorthopping forward gives you the same hop distance as dash - shorhop, so.

It also avoids tripping.

So here's a habit to break, eh?

I was just saying this because in Melee, shl involved
dashing->shorthop->laser->fastfall

Now it involves
shorthop->timing->lasers

No fastfall and no dashing needed.

actually in Melee, wat you could do was short hop and THEN move in the air Fastfall then laser.

You can't Fastfall B moves anymore in Brawl

Also no one ever said you had to dash your lasers, but if you want to use it as an approach, you have to dash first or you aren't gonna move.

Not really, your shorthop forward is the same length as dash forward shorthop.

Obviously the dash gives you some extra length, but the shorthop distance stays the same.

And you could avoid tripping by replacing dash with walking.
