I welcome you all to a new venue at Play It Again! We like to call it “Smash It Again!” Here, fans of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Project M can compete in bi-weekly tournaments against players from the region and possibly even around the state! If you find yourself bored or looking for some stiff competition that can’t be found on For Glory, just swing on by. We’re located right across the road from the Concord Mills mall.

Schedule:

12:00-Doors Open/Registration Starts
1:00-Wii U Singles Bracket Starts
2:00-PM Singles Bracket Starts

4:00 Lunch Break and Chill-out Time

5:00 Return from Break

Location:

Located about 15 minutes away from UNCC and practically in the same parking lot of the Concord Mills Mall, this is the ideal location for all your new, retro, card, and board gaming needs. Concord Mills Blvd is directly off I-85 as well so it should be easy enough for you travelers to find. There is plenty of food in the area including Steak & Shake, Chic-Fil-A, and of course the food court in the mall. While no outside food or drink is allowed in the venue, they do offer drinks and simple snacks at a very reasonable cost. Also, be sure to keep your language and behavior family friendly. We will continue to hold Smash tournaments here, so show them the best our community has to offer. It's important to note this is a high traffic area so be sure to keep that in mind when you’re heading to and from the event. Be sure to like and follow their Facebook page by clicking the image below.

General Rules:

· As a guest, be sure you clean up after yourself and leave no messes behind

· Absolutely no drugs and alcohol on the premises. If we see any, we’re sending you home packing

· If you’re called on to play a match and you’re not present, you have 10 minutes to show up or else you’re disqualified from your match

· Coaching in any way, shape or form during a player’s match is prohibited. That includes in between games and sets. Giving advice to a player after a match when they’re on standby is completely legal. There is a three-strike system enforced to any violators

· A T.O. set up is located right at the doorway. Anyone with a “Tournament Organizer” label or “TO” label can touch the equipment. Anyone else DOES NOT touch the brackets or equipment

· It is the job of both players to report their matches. Please stay alert and on top of things when reporting matches to ensure efficiency

· Any disrespectful actions and comments to players, staff, outsiders, etc. will result in an escort off the premise

Project M Ruleset:

For everything, except the stage selection, we use the Apex 2014 ruleset, including character selection and stage striking. However, we will be using a new stage list we’ve worked on with other T.O.'s in the region. Since the Apex site no longer has the rules up here's a link if you are unfamiliar: PROJECT M RULESET

Additional Rules to Consider:

· Playing as WarioMan or Giga Bowser is banned

· Any Alt. Stages listed under banned stages ARE banned. This includes Hyrule Castle, Peach’s Castle, Delfino Island, Planet Zebes, Sector Z, Rumble Falls, Meta Crystal, Summit, Hanenbow, and New Pork City

Project M Stage List:

With Project M 3.6 Beta now available, the stage list has made several minor changes. This is what we plan to work with for now until any word has been officially made by the state T.O.’s.

Green-Starter/Neutral Stages
These stages are available all rounds but are the only ones available for round 1
-Green Hill Zone
-Pokémon Stadium 2 (Pokémon Stadium works if you BOTH agree to it)
-Smashville
-Battlefield (Melee Alt. is acceptable)
-Dreamland 64 (Original is acceptable)

-Lylat Cruise

-Yoshi’s Story (Melee)

Yellow-Counter Pick Stages
These stages are available only after round 1 is complete
-Warioware Inc.
-Final Destination
-Yoshi's Island (Brawl)
-Fountain Of Dreams
-Norfair

-Distant Planet

-Castle Siege

Red-Banned Stages
Stages that you cannot pick after stage bans, unless agreed through the Gentleman’s Agreement Clause.

-Delfino’s Secret

-Hyrule Castle HD

-Infinite Glacier

-Metal Cavern HD

-Saffron City HD

-Peach’s Castle HD

-Bowser’s Castle
-Any stages from Page 2

-The following Stage Alts.: Yoshi’s Island (Melee), Yoshi’s Island (64), Norfair (Brawl), Castle Siege (Brawl), Skyworld (Brawl), Lylat Cruise (Brawl), WarioWare Inc. (Brawl), and Green Hill Zone (Brawl)

Project M Character Texture Hacks:

Texture hacks are allowed. If you have your own build you would like to show off on stream, be sure to bring in your SD card! We only ask that you check your textures to ensure they are texture hacks ONLY and not vectors and changes to the original character model. For example, this R.O.B. texture is one that we enjoy using because of how creative it is and does not manipulate the vector of the character.

Music:

We also greatly encourage people to show off their music too since it heats up the battle. For example, we love other fighters such as Blazblue and Marvel vs. Capcom. We have songs from those games and various others. Expect some of your favorite songs or even completely random entries to be heard throughout the venue!

Smash for Wii U Ruleset:

Now I know the standard is to use the EVO ruleset, however, that ruleset is designed for a huge multi-national tournament while we're just a small local scene and we can take plenty of liberties. We will stick to a 3 stock 8 minute match set since most people agree with it and we have worked with it since the initial release of Smash for Wii U.

* 3 stock, 8 minutes.
* Sets are best of 3. Finals are best of 5.
* Items set to “off” and “none.”
* Either player may call for a Double Blind character selection for the first match.

* Stage selection for starters will work on a 1-2-1 basis. A game of rock paper scissors will be played to determine who goes first.
* Pausing during a match unless OK’d by the other player will result in the loss of one stock for the one who paused.
* Quitting out of a match before it is over will result in a loss for the quitter.
* If time runs out, the person with the most stock left (or least % if they are equal) wins. If the % is equal as well, play a 1 stock 3 minute match, same characters and stage.
* If the match ends due to a suicide move (Ganon’s Side-B, Kirby/DDD/Wario’s Neutral-B, holding someone in a grab on a platform as it moves out of the boundaries, etc.), the one who initiated the move wins despite what the results screen says.
* No coaching during a game or set. Consulting someone between matches is allowed as long as it doesn't hold up the next match. Any players found coaching in a match will first get a warning, followed by the player getting disqualified in their match, and finally the coach AND the player will be disqualified completely from the tournament.
* Both players may agree to any rule or stage outside the tournament ruleset.
* Custom controls are allowed, but controllers modified to enhance performance are not. No turbo buttons, etc.
* Custom character MOVESETS are allowed, but no Equipment. Mii characters are allowed, but still no equipment.

Stage List:
The selection is based off of the EVO 2015 ruleset with some slight differences, stages are now split between Starter & Counter-Picks, and Omegas are added. First, if Final Destination is ever selected as either a starter or counter pick, either player has the option to play the match on Palutena's Temple Omega instead. Final Destination, while it may not bother some, has that flash of bright light that can be incredibly distracting to some players, so if you are uncomfortable with playing on Final Destination, you shouldn't have to. Second, Omega stages are counted separately from the Final Destination selection. So if your opponent bans Final Destination you do have the option of picking any other Omega stage still as a counter pick. There are 2 stage bans. Players can also make a Gentleman’s Agreement on any stage not listed, but do not get upset if you lost your match on Dr. Wily’s Castle or Luigi’s Mansion because you chose that stage.

Starters:

Available on round 1 and every other round after that
-Battlefield/Miiverse
-Smashville
-Final Destination/Palutena’s Temple (Omega)

-Lylat Cruise

-Town and City

Counter-Picks:

Only available after round 1 and can be selected by the loser. Winner gets 2 bans

-Halberd
-Delfino Plaza
-Castle Siege
-Duck Hunt

-Dreamland 64
-Omega Stages (Treated separately from Final Destination and Palutena’s Temple Omega).

Custom Movesets:
Our venue has adopted the Official Custom Moveset Project established by AmazingAmpharos. Any and all move sets can be found
here. All movesets will be labeled by their corresponding number. For example, a Samus with Normal Charge Shot, Relentless Missles, Normal Screw Attack, and Slip Bomb would be labeled 1221. Any other information you wish to give your opponent about your move set is up to you. A list of all custom sets will be provided at the tournament
Something else important with a custom move set selection: It will be treated the same as a character selection:
Round 1: Double blind option or just sit down select and play
Round 2+: Loser selects stage choice>Winner selects character and moveset>Loser selects character and moveset

Custom Equipment:
No custom equipment will be allowed. These things change aspects like attack power, weight and speed of the character. Since the options are so vast and there really would be no way to prepare yourself for every option available it is best to outright ban it all. Sorry if you like your equipment but it can and does alter the way the game functions so no luck. This does not include the hats or outfits on the Mii Fighters since that's a separate option entirely and changes nothing about the characters attributes.

Mii Fighters:
Mii Fighters are available to be played in any configuration you want. I know there is a lot of things you can do with the size of your Mii and stuff that actually effect how it will perform but as far as I can tell these are minute changes. Similar to custom movesets, if your opponent asks to see your move selections simply tell them or show them the bottom screen of your special moves selection. Again no equipment allowed on your Mii Fighters.

For our side event, we will have Super Smash Bros. Brawl available for anyone who wishes to play and have a little fun.

Brawl Ruleset:

Everything is kept intact from the official rules on Smashboards. If you are unfamiliar with the rules, just click here to read up.

Brawl Stage list:

Directly from the ruleset, players must start from a starter list of stages and follow into both starters and counter picks after the first round. We have made only one exception to the rule: Delfino Plaza will be added to the list of counter picks. Here is the list of starters and counter picks:

Starters:

-Battlefield

-Final Destination

-Yoshi’s Island

-Lylat Cruise

-Smashville

Counter picks:

-Haberd

-Delfino Plaza

-Castle Siege

-Pokémon Stadium (Melee)
