[collapse="Smash 4 Rules"]General Rules
1. 2 Stock.
2. 6 minute timer.
3. Items are set to "Off" and "None"
4. Team attack is set to "On"
5. Matches are best of 3. Winners/Losers/Grand Finals are best of 5.
6. Controller port disputes will be resolved by Rock-Paper-Scissors or higher number with G&W's SideB.
7. First round stage will be determined by stage strike system, or a particular stage if agreed upon by both parties (Smashville is a popular game one stage).
8. No player may choose a stage they have already won on in that set unless agreed upon by both players.
9. It is your responsibility to make sure you fix your controller and your tag before you start playing. If a match is to be restarted due to controller functions, it must be agreed upon by both parties.
10. Any action that can prevent the game from continuing (i.e., freezing, disappearing characters, game reset, etc.) will result in a forfeit of that match for the player that initiated the action.
11. [Time Limit] If the timer runs out, the winner of the game will be determined by the following criteria in this order: Stock and Percentage. If Stock is used to determine a winner, the highest number will win. If Percentage is used to determine a winner, the lowest number will win. If both Stock and Percentage are tied, Sudden Death won’t be used and a Tiebreaker Round will be played instead. In a Tiebreaker Round, stock will be set to 1, the timer will be set to 4 Minutes, and the same stage and characters must be used.

Specific Rules
1. Custom Specials are legal. Custom Equipment is not legal. Miis are legal.
2. No pausing a game without the other player's permission.
3. No use of an action that freezes a game, or otherwise disrupts standard gameplay.
4. Players may not intentionally manipulate a button, trigger, bumper, D-Pad, and/or joystick on a teammate’s controller while a game is in progress. Breaking this rule will result in a forfeit of the game.

Stage Striking
1. Players may request a blind pick of characters for the first game. Essentially, you tell a person/judge which character you're going to play as. After all players tell the judge their character, the judge will then have the players pick their characters simultaneously.
2. The player with the highest port (i.e. port 4) strikes first any stage off the list of starter stages, and the player with the lowest port strikes second the next two starter stages.
3. After the first game has been played, the winning player/team may announce up to three stages off the Starter/Counter-Pick Stage List to be banned for counterpicks of the set.
4. The loser of the previous match announces the next match's stage from either the Starter Stage List or the Counter-Pick Stage List not currently banned.
5. The winner of the previous match chooses his/her character. 6. The loser of the previous match chooses his/her character.
7. Repeat steps 3-6 for all proceeding games until the set is complete.

What's the difference between Sm4sh Pools and Smash 4 Amateur Bracket besides just the price and the times?

Pools are a round-robin matches where players in each pool play against each other. The top x number of people advance into the main bracket (top 16) while everyone else drowns. If you have 1 pool, only the top 16 people make it out into the bracket. If you have 2, 8 people from each pool advance, and so on and so forth. It then turns into a double elimination-style 16-man bracket.

The amateur bracket is for people who did not advance into the main bracket. Same rules apply, I believe. Double elimination, etc...
