Just as a quick question, I've heard many people use the phrase "johns" quite a lot on this forum. What's the definition of a John?

Examples of common Johns:

No fair man, I wasn't ready!

No Johns.

I only got three stocked since I didn't pick the right color!

No Johns.

You just kept spamming lasers the entire match!

No Johns.

The lag online was terrible! That didn't count!

No Johns.

(insert just about any other excuse here)

No Johns.

The excuses used in Johning sound much worse than anything I've ever said before. I always thought "John" had something to do with toilets.

People have a right to call johns, but it's annoying when you have a real reason, not exactly an excuse, as to why you lost. People who call johns on something that isn't even worthy of johns need to stfu. It starts to blur the lines between excuses and making a promise to correct something that wasn't in your favor.

It's not even a defense for bad play. I'll say something as simple as

"****, I need more practice. I haven't played enough."
"NO JOHNS!"
>_>

But those who go on, "I'm not used to this controller," need to stfu and move on.

That could actually be an acceptable john.
I don't really play much and don't use that as an excuse.
You could be playing if you want to be. =/

Unless, you know, the Wii is broken. But then you can just go out and play somewhere else. >_>

I only got three stocked since I didn't pick the right color!

No Johns.
This is a serious issue!

NO JONEZ OLOLOLOL.

Unfortunately, No Johns has become an overused and inappropriately used expression.

Those are what I call special johns, usable only by people that played for the first time in months. My group down here doesn't make up excuses. We just curse under our breath and glare at the opponent.

Exactly.

Johns, or long johns, are the thermal underwear the smashers wear to play SSB in. At tournaments, the phrase "No johns" means, if you don't have long johns get out. So pro-tip: Get a pair of long johns.
