I've come across my fair share of people around here who would like to be employed. I'm no different. I'll admit it has been frustrating to find one but I'm not going to give up! I know, I'll land the big one... ... ... eventually.

So what I am wondering, who here has been down that path and prevailed? Who has some words of wisdom to just keep looking? What hardships did you go through? How did you stay in a positive attitude to finally land that job? Whether it'd be your career job or just something to keep your wallet from being anorexic, are there any tips you can give for fellow job seekers out there?

I graduated from college in August of 2009. I found NOTHING related to my degree save for one place (ironically, it was writing policies and procedures for oil spills, so when the BP thing happened, I would have been REALLY tested). In November, I took the state test for entry positions. Applied at a bunch of government agencies to nothing. Hurt my back horribly in January, then I got a position with AT&T as a contractor splicing wires. Same day I was offered that position my local government offered a position. Local saw something in me, and 3 months later they gave me a substantial raise and work as a programmer where, once I leave, I can get a job where I can "set my own price" as I've been told.

Basically, apply EVERYWHERE. You never know what'll help.

If you've never had any previous job experience and are looking for a job, do community service and bring that up. I've been turned down by several potential employers because I always said I've had no previous job experience, until I mentioned that I volunteered at the local elementary school's art club and I managed to get hired.

Experience is experience.

I wonder if we can use tournament hosting as volunteer experience? : ]

Although I'm still looking for work. I do need to put more effort into it though.

Haha, I wonder what I can pass for Volenteer experience. Hmmm...

But yeah, applying EVERYWHERE seems to be something you eventually start to realize.

Two years ago I applied at a restaurant asking to be a server. I had no previous experience but I figured I'd give it a shot.

They hired me on the spot .__.

Since then the restaurant has shut down (lol) It happened this summer actually.
Once I found out (I was on vacation when it shut down) I pretty much immediately got a stack of resumes ready to look for a new job.

I figured I'd start by looking at some other restaurants of course.
First restaurant I went to I got hired on the spot .__.

Take what you want from that.

Restaurants hire on personality and willingness to work for tips. I never would work for tips, but I have yet to meet someone who was willing get rejected.
