A friend of mine put me onto this recently. The quote pretty much sums it up. An incredible amount of tweaking and work goes into these to get them under 4k, and every one is pretty ingenious given the limitations.

My favourite so far (can't find it on the main site yet, but here's a link) is Left4kDead. It's too awesome.
