So what exactly are the physics differences in the Japanese version of Super Smash Bros.? I know that some of the sounds are different, but are there actually differences in the characters' attacks/animations/capabilities, etc.? I know it'll probably be hard to come up with a specific list of all the differences, but if anyone knows, post 'em.

Well Jigglypuff is called Purin in the Japanese version. Also the Beam Sword sounded like a Light Saber from Star Wars.

Jigglypuff is now called Purin. DK's name now shows up as DKong on the character selection screen. And when you choose Fox, the announcer guy says his name a different way. But you may want to look at that link that Thino posted.

Falcon is more of a finisher than a combo racker in the japanese version. Fox has a scary dsmash. tier list must be messed XD. Oh, lots of dash slides for lots of chars.

I don't see why the physics would change.
If you look at the link that Thino posted above, you'll see why the physics DO change - certain attacks do different amounts of percent and therefore have stronger knockback; also, certain throws send characters in different directions than they do on the U.S. version of Smash. I was wondering why players would go flying horizontally after being thrown by Kirby's forward throw - on the U.S. version, they go in a more vertical direction.

isnt turn slide a part of teleporting , like just jump + aerial at a specific frame during turn slide (for jigglypuff and samus)?

according to my post it's not the jiggly/samus teleport(and if ur going to name names fox's dash slide/teleport -___- is way better than samus's). i later changed it to a better name(turn slide)

http://youtube.com/watch?v=uM4AbwLTJzU :48 then i try to do it again at :50-:51 but i get hit and 1:35
From what I saw in the video, the "teleport" just looks like a superfast dash - am I seeing the right thing?

it's not a teleport it's a turn slide
Alright, it's a turn slide. And it looks like it's good for increasing your speed and unpredictability. Not bad - I wonder why they took that out of the U.S. version (assuming that the U.S. version was made after the Japanese one)?

I just realized - it must be a living pain for international tournament players to deal with different versions of Smash64. You've got the Japanese smashers who're used to the Japanese physics, and then you've got the U.S. smashers who're used to the U.S.-style physics. Which version do they use when they compete? My guess would be the Japanese one, since that's where Nintendo is based in the first place, and probably the majority of the "professional" Smash64 players (excepting Isai, I guess).

Don't worry, dude - you don't have to talk to me. And if you're wondering, I wasn't trying to insult you in my post above...the reason I said "except Isai" is because I assumed that you live HERE in the U.S. instead of Japan. Technically, I was still referring to you as a "professional" player - again, I'm not trying to insult you, so don't get mad.

According to your icon, you live in the United States. But what do I know...maybe you actually live in Japan and you just send all your forum messages to someone that lives in the U.S. and then have them post for you on SmashBoards under the name "malva00." Oh, life is so complicated sometimes.

ewww confusing , just play the location's SSB64 wherever u are ,whoever you are lol
I am - I'm just trying to figure out if Isai got mad because I said he didn't live in Japan, when he actually does. His icon says he lives in Oakland, California, but as I said before, maybe he DOES live in Japan and just has someone in the U.S. post his messages for him. Other than that, I can't figure out why he responded the way he did. Maybe he's just unpredictable.

From what I've seen, "teleport", "dash slide", and "turn slide" all mean exactly the same thing. You'd think they'd settle on something concrete, but I guess not.

dash slide = turn slide =/= teleport
Oh oops. So then - what's teleporting? It's actually not that important, since I think it's only in Japanese Smash anyway; but heck, I might as well know anyway.

teleport is in us version. with samus/jiggly, in the middle of a dash (can't be initial dash) you mash the control stick in the opposite direction and then hit jump, making you zoom a little across the ground before jumping up. fox can also do it into a jump canceled u-smash. none of this has a ton of practical value though

Oh man, I'm really messing this up. Okay, thanks for clarifying.

Thanks for explaining it - I see what it is now. Can you still be hit in the middle of a teleport, or does it allow you to escape certain/all attacks?

you can be hit. its really not that useful, except maybe for edgeguarding (teleporting off a ledge cancels the jump iirc and you could teleport right into a ground-level aerial against someone trying to sweet spot the ledge)

dash slide = turn slide =/= teleport
ur wrong turn slide =/= dash slide = teleport

u don't need a TON I mean COME ON u DUN NEED A TON OF BUTTER EITHER lol or a TON of MILK

don't listen to anyone who says it's not useful. if u fair/bair/nair someone with fox and can't make an up smash without the dash slide then that lets you up smash them. u use everything u can in the game to help you if u can do it

the only thing u need to watch out for are risky techniques like pikachu/mario/luigi straight up B or yoshi reverse edge hog or trying to cancel people's attacks with fox's down b lol

Thanks, I'll try to remember the turn slide/dash slide distinction. I doubt I'll be incorporating those moves successfully for a while yet, but hey, just knowing can help.

And I know that every technique can be useful - I think what previous posters meant when they said "not practical" or "not useful" or whatever was that teleporting is RELATIVELY "not useful." This means that compared to other more important techniques (short hopping, Z-canceling, etc.) it's less useful. That doesn't mean it's not useful period; EVERY technique has some purpose in some situation. The trick is finding the situation and knowing how/when to use the appropriate techniques, and I think that it's more difficult to do that with teleporting than it is with other things since there seems to be so much confusion as to what it actually is. Heck, it took several posting sessions just to establish which versions of Smash have it and which don't. Plus, it gets confused with turn sliding, and that only makes things worse. Boy, I'm glad I asked about this - hopefully I just saved myself a TON of confusion.

Thanks to everyone for your responses.

yo puffer, teleporting is **** useful for jiggs and Neph just proved it to me the other day XD. Not just for tech chasing and but Neph carried me into the air with a fair. KK you know how sonic in brawl can do that spin dash move and he follows u in the air and can follow up with an aerial attack? Well you can do that with the teleport and it's rlly cool....

That's good; thanks for the report. Is it only a workable technique for Jigglypuff, or can it be applied to every character?

only for jiggs XD cause she has the best teleport. Samus's uses for the teleport is good as well and I call it the running bomb tech. You do the teleport and immediately do a jump and bomb backwards. It will look like you running towards the opponent and then teleporting backwards with the bomb releasing in front of u as a shield.
