Well if the girl is your close friend, it is your obligation to honour that friendship by going through with promises.

You should still try your utmost to serve yourself for a short period. It's nice thinking about yourself from time to time, trust me it helps.

It's your life, so it's up to you to decide when/if you want to do something to change. But when/if you do make that decision, whatever change you want to make I do suggest writing on a piece of paper and putting it someplace where it can be a frequent reminder, either in a pocket or your locker at school or your computer monitor or wherever. A small shift in thinking can have a HUGE affect on your life.

And for the record, yes I would bail on a date if I felt the situation required it. Whether or not she's understanding about it depends on the person, but my decision would be made by what I feel is best for me, not whether or not I think she'd understand.

From what I've read, this girl really doesn't know what she wants, and instead of giving you a straightforward yes or no, she's just ****ing with your feelings.
