Not surprising, seeing as there are so few "big" games for it yet. MK8 and a remake of a Gamecube game (Windwaker) wouldn't really cut it alone.

This is US sales only. We still have to see how the other region sales will fare.
This is an amazing feat for the US though.

Also remember to always add your source. If you don't, people can't look up the source article to see the actual numbers. But I am a nice guy and found the source for you.

Super Smash Bros. Wii U has become the console's fastest selling title in the US, shifting a combined 490,000 units across digital and physical combined in just three days.

490,000 for two days in one region is not bad at all...but I am a but concerned that Nintendo didn't mention any hardware boost like they did with Mario Kart.

This is especially impressive considering that these numbers are from America the week before Black Friday. I am sure a large number of people are waiting for bundles and/or sales to pick this game up, so second week sales should remain fairly strong.

I can't wait to see what the global sales are on the 6th of December. I am sure Nintendo would love to share those huge numbers with us then. I wonder if the game will top the million mark by then.

Yes, those are all great games, but he is referring to big system sellers like Mario and Zelda. (And Smash)
In which case, Zelda only has a remake, and Mario got a game last year.

Don't make me roll my eyes...

Extremely few of those would be called a killer app by any means. Not that they aren't excellent, but most of them aren't what someone would go out and buy a console for. Smash, by comparison, is that popular.

That's probably just my opinion, though. I literally bought my 3DS specifically for FE Awakening, and I bought my Wii U specifically for Smash (MK8 was just the icing on the cake for that one, and the later-purchased 3DS games were good but certainly not system-sellers). But I think it speaks to Smash's overwhelming popularity compared to the rest of them, that it's already the fastest selling game on the platform.

As for indie games, I love 'em, but most of them were out on PC for months before they hit the eShop, if not longer.

Don't forget Bayonetta 2.
I never played the first, though I do plan on grabbing Bayonetta at some point. But I guess that's kinda my point. It's got plenty of games that series fans would buy the system for (Bayonetta, Hyrule Warriors, MK8, Mario platformers, etc), but prior to Smash it didn't really have a game that "everyone" wanted. Now it does, and then (for example) people like me, who now have the system, will be more willing to go experiment with these other games than we'd have been otherwise.

Don't forget the fact the game releases in Europe that day as well.

Bayonetta 2 got perfect scores off of so many reviewers and was a very highly anticipated game to boot. It is most certainly a killer app.

3D World, NSMBU, Hyrule Warriors, and DK Tropical Freeze are most certainly among the Wii U's killer apps too. And there are plenty of other great exclusives in the back catalog to get after you get the system for Smash or whatever.

I also would argue NintendoLand (for the right price and if you have a Wiimote plus)) is a must have too. Pretty challenging at times but it's a very fun series of Nintendo IP inspired mini games.

It's rather hard to define a killer app, and it varies by person, but yeah, I guess Bayonetta would count (I was about to argue that it's a sequel and not necessarily everyone played the first, then I remembered that it comes with the first). Either way, especially compared to release, the U is getting a rather respectable library built up, that will likely only improve as time goes on.

I think that killer game is the one that people will buy the console for. Not exclusively for, though. Some people would not buy a WiiU just for X game. But they would buy a WiiU for Smash so they'll wait for Smash and then buy both games at once. That kind of thing.
