This thread isn't one for all of you hardcore tournament players out there who play 1vs1 with no items on boring levels like Final Destination... it's more for those of us that like to have massive battles on huge stages with the items set to Very High. I want to know what everyone is looking forwards to using (item-wise) in Brawl. I myself am hoping for the Beam Sword to return to it's former glory, and also for a few items from games such as Zelda and Mario Kart (I mean, how awesome would it be to shrink your enemies with a Lightning and then blow them up with Bombchus?) Also, some info about items from the playable demo would be appreciated. =)

Yea well the lightning bolt has been confirmed already. And on the dojo it explains the beam sword in detail.

There are non-pros here, too, ihavespaceballs, I never used advanced techniques in Melee, I just like to have fun.
And that's why you and thousands like you are on the Brawl boards here right now. But, by mid 2008, 90% of you will be gone, and the rest will have joined the competitive community, i.e. the whole point of this website.

That really isn't true, I don't play competitively at all, or do any wavedashing or L-Cancelling or stuff like that, but me and my friends have never really stopped playing Melee since 2002 when it came out.

I only knew about forums like these since Brawl was announced and one of my friends found out about them, I'm not really much of an internet user you see. Anyway be right back, just got to kick my brother's Fox *** with Pichu a few times =)

It'd be swwet if we could adjust items like in My Music, instead of:

High Medium Low

On/Off
On/Off

Let's try this:

None----------High

Off------------High
Off--- High

I was stating my opinion, and inviting people who feel the same way to post here. And i didn't say your way of playing was boring anyway, I think it's ok... I said final destination is boring. An example of how I like to playis a Time match on Poke Floats or Brinstar Depths with 4 players and lots of items. I prefer to think of Smash Bros as a party game rather than a game to take seriously. Some people are so hostile aren't they :dizzy:

That would be awesome. Melee seems to do this automatically (some items appear more than others, even when only 2 or 3 are turned on), so being able to control them that precisely would allow for even more amazingly fun matches.

Thanks for being a judgmental ******* and insulting most of the website.

There shouldn't be a reason to call out people that may disagree with you if your post is supposed to invite people who agree with you into discussion.

PM if you're adding me!
I love playing Items on V. High. It just adds to that fun factor in the game that no other fighting game has - pure madness.
You can play the game as a pro and win all the time, but you're missing the true essence of the game - to have fun and go crazy.

The true essence of the game is to have fun. Tournament players play the way they play because it's fun.

OMG PARADOX!

Haha. I love threads like these, which seem to imply that tourney players don't have fun. They play like that because they believe winning via skill is fun. I agree, because I have what I like to call explosive bad luck when it comes to items. Honestly, it doesn't matter if it's a heart container, it will find a way to explode on me.

People are just getting sick and tired of listening to competitive player call outs. That may not have been what you intended, but I can see why some people took it that way.

I kind of see it as this...
I am a competitve player whether items ar on or off but really what makes people competitive is they want to win.
You could be a competitive player even if you play with friendly fire on or off.
but then again I could be wrong =P

OP seems to think competitive people only buy the game to beat other people mindlessly and become the best. He seems to miss the fact that competitive people (like me!) have FUN playing competitively. I have fun with items on too, but I get a little ticked off when I lose cause a bomb landed on me.

I always knew that Smash was taken seriously, but I never took the time to learn about it until a few months ago. I've learned some of the advanced techniques on my own, but I had no idea the game was as in-depth as it really was. Crazy stuff.

My friends and I pop in Melee all the time and we take it both seriously and go crazy with it, but honestly, crazy matches with special modes and/or tons of items get boring rather quickly, and after that they get frustrating. Ultimately, I have the most fun in a game when i can try to win and the results of the game make sense. I like a good mental workout. When people critique people like me, they tend to forget that we play the way we play to have fun.

This isn't just with Smash, mind you, it's with all games in general. The same personalities play every game. Pretty interesting how that works out.

Overdefensive or what, eh? The original poster makes what at the very worst is a slight jab at competetive players and then proceeds to get jumped on. It's that kind of thing that gives competetive players a bad name. :ohwell:

Anyway, I'm looking forward to an AT and Pokéball only free for all on the smallest stage I can find.

People that debate items are fools! Tournaments are really fun, and are competitive, and items have no place in them. Explosive boxes are not toggolable and can spawn right in front of you when charging a Smash attack. Sure, you can say memorize the spawn points and never do Smashes there, but that would be a joke lol!

In casual play with friends, items are AMAZING! They add a TON of fun to the game! Who doesn't love dual-wielding a Beam Sword with Marth, Roy or Link? Pokeballs are great (especially when you get teh Wobuffetz). Brawl will defnintely have great items to appeal to casual play!

Don't bash people that don't like playing on stages like Rainbow Cruise, Flat Zone, Brinstar Depths or Pokefloats. I despise fighting on moving stages especially because the game becomes more of a dodging fest than a Melee/Brawl!

When playing with items, I always put it on Very Low just because it makes their appearances more vital and important!

On topic: I love playing with items, and hope to use some of the newer ones and get used to them, like I have on Melee VERY quickly. :p Learn or perish. For instance, the capsule is suprisingly useful just to throw at someone, especially if it explodes.

Off topic: I'm not one of the people who exploit glitches, yet I'm here and know the terms. I was tempted, but since I can only Wavedash with Luigi and even then not very well, I've decided not to. TBH, IN MY OPINION, using glitches to help beat someone is like using a cheat cartridge or something. Fine if everybody you're against can and does do it, but agaisnt someone who sticks to the "official" means, it's very one-sided. That's my biggest ear of online, some git flying across the stage with Bowser somehow and using his strongest attack repeatedly by jumping and somehow having no lag, and beating me before I can get a hit in. It just seems unfair to take it out on non-tourney or exploiting people. I'm sure if you know how, it's great fun. But you shouldn'y have a go at those who can't/don't.

Why would you go out of your way just to say:

Stupid competitive players... I'm gonna play with items and have all the fun... the way you play sucks...

Seriously... why can't you just enjoy the game the way you want, instead of *****ing about how competitive players take all the fun out of the game...
