its very possible that capcom turned nintendo down. think about it. they have their own fighting games, why do they need nintendo to put their characters in the fighting games? sure, we would have loved it...

but dont blame nintendo for not having megaman. sure, its possible they didnt even ask...but it is just as likely (if not more likely) that capcom turned them down.

Idiotic. I love Capcom to death but their fans know most of all that they're total whores for a quick dollar. If not Megaman, they'd have offered Phoenix, Leon, either Ryu - someone, anyone - just to get the license money. Nintendo didn't approach them, and we'll just have to suck it up.

you dont know that. they make more money from their own games than they would putting a single character into a nintendo game.

Nintendo didn't approach Capcom.
Capcom didn't approach Nintendo.

Konami approached Nintendo.

It's both Capcom and Nintendo's "fault". Who cares?

What about the interview with capcom that said Sakurai never even asked if he could use megaman for brawl?

If he had tried, Megaman would be in Brawl. Appearing in a game as famous as Smash Bros. does nothing but good for a character's series. Plus, that guy in that interview said Nintendo never approached him to have Megaman put in Brawl.

when was the interview held? ive not seen it at all.

id also like to point out that there could have been other reasons for him not being in it. (such as higher ups in nintendo not wanting it to happen. worried that the game wouldnt be about nintendo anymore).

the rumors suggest that the reason we dont have geno (and the reason for the delays) was because square wouldnt allow it. im merely pointing out that something similar (not identical) could have happened to any other character. megaman just seems to be the most popular for people to complain about.

Judging from the roster number and its "clones", something tells me that developing characters was not as easy as we all had made it out to be these past couple of years. I for one dont think Sakurai was too keen to get so many third party characters in Brawl, especially when it meant all that licensing for Nintendo and even more work for Sakurai and co. having to fit in Megaman's universe into everything...

Doesnt anyone think that interlocking all those Nintendo universes is hard enough as it is without adding guests whose histories are not as easily obtainable? It was probably an accomplishment enough just to get Sonic in there! Im not bashing on Megaman or Sakurai or anyone, just offering a possible scenario.

i dont think the hard part is really MAKING them...its balancing them and attempting to make a full set of moves that LOOKS good. its a fact that games with flashier graphics will sell better. especially to todays teens.

As I recall the higher ups wanted more 3rd party characters but Sakurai didn't. And as we know Sakurai had full reign over the game, nobody wanted to step on his mojo. In any case I'm sure he had a good reason not to include him in brawl. Time could have been a factor. but who knows.

honestly, I'm really mad megaman isn't in, I just can't believe that after all the delays, he wouldn't be able to put megaman in.

Mad? C'mon now. Sure there were delays, but usually if a game is delayed it's because it's not done, not because the guys making it are feel like jacking around for a month, ergo they wouldn't have time to add anything else without more delays. And besides anything more than 'extremely dissapointed' isn't really justifiable. You personally were not cheated, so I don't see how anger is a reasonable response.

I really don't care one way or the other, but to be honest, it probably takes months and months to add a new character, even just a clone. Adding a new character just because of a delay is unreasonable, and would probably just delay the game even more.

wow, this thread is still going (just finished a movie).

i stand by what i said. none of us know the details of anything that happened. it is someones fault, we just dont know whos. the roster is great. people complain about clones, and then about ROB. you want more originals? but you complain about rob? seriously?!

Sakurai may not have asked them. In fact, I don't think Nintendo asked many companies at all (as certain characters like Pacman woudl be a shoo in given their relationship with Namco).

I've no proof of this, but Sonic's appearance probably had something to do with the agreement that let Sega develop and release the M&S Olympic games as the first Mario/Sonic crossover. Snake's inclusion was obviously due to a personal friendships and Kojima's request for him to be in Smash.

Between Snake/Sonic, the game already has enough hype to it. If other third parties wanted money to use their characters (which they all probably did) then it wouldn't be that helpful for Sakurai or Nintendo to shell out big bucks for more third parties when they are already backlisted on wanted Nintendo characters.

I was thinking this myself. If Sega had their way, Sonic would be the only third-party character. However, Snake was in the roster long before Mario and Sonic was announced, so part of the deal most likely meant no extra third-party characters.

The next Smash game, however, probably has a 99% chance of including Megaman.
