It just occurred to me that the 3DS box art confirms Rosalina, Marth and Mac as starters.

What do you guys think about this? I think it's awesome cause Little Mac and Rosalina were the two Nintendo newcomers I wanted to try in the event Palutena and the third party characters were unlockables, as for Marth this is his first time as a starter so this is pretty neat.

I do see your point that since these characters are on the cover for the 3DS version that means they are starters, but I don't really think that is 100% true. Sure they may be on the cover, but nothing is for sure. For all we know some of them, such as Rosalina, Marth, and Lil Mac, could still be un-lockable characters tbh. It's a good theory, but nothing is set in stone right now. I guess we will just have to wait and see until the game is released! :D

I dont think we ever saw cover characters not be starters. Its awesome knowing little mac is not unlockable. I kinds figured anyone at the invitational would be starters. Also I think yoshi and shiek and zelda are also gonna be starters.

I do hope you're right, as I want to try out Rosalina and Little Mac ASAP, but I don't know if that really means anything, as there is always the chance the trend of this happening is purely coincidence. Personally I think I would prefer either having the entire roster at start or making them easy to unlock really fast, just nice to have for parties.

Hmm, this is interesting, but I'm thinking Rosalina is still going to be unlockable, regardless she's been unlockable in just about any Mario spin-off game she's playable in (including 3D World), however she might end up as a starter in the 3DS version only, maybe the starting/unlockables will switch between versions (Rosalina & Marth starter in 3DS version, unlockable in Wii U).

Wouldn't it make more sense to put Rosalina on the Wii U box. The only handheld appearances she only had were Mario Kart 7 and Mario Party 3DS. The rest of her appearances were on the Wii and Wii U.

I am not necessarily going to treat this as objective fact; however, it would certainly be ideal if Little Mac was a starter as I intend to main him. It would be interesting to see whether or not I continue my tradition of always using Link first or not.

I was thinking the same thing about Black Shadow actually, it'd be the perfect compromise for folks like myself who want Ganondorf to have a unique move set but at the same time his current move set in Smash feels so damn good so having Black Hadow to have the best of both worlds would be cool. (I prefer F-Zero over Mario Kart myself by the way so I know where you're coming from there.)

• Pac Man is classic but hasn't had a "good" game in years
• Capcom has done their best to kill Megaman (split fanbase with regards to MM9 and MM10)
• Bar the re-release of SF64, Starfox has been dead since 2006
• Going off of leaks, my experience with Rhythm Heaven is identical to yours with F-Zero
• I hear more "Oh no another Sonic game" than "Oh man it's Sonic!" these days
• Pre-Brawl, Pit hadn't had a game in more than a decade

I still don't actually expect anyone but Falcon, I just dream.

Another interesting tidbit, Fox is the only one of the original eight to not be on either the 3DS or U box art, and Villager is the only newcomer to be on both. And Wiifit is also on the boxart for the U version, so she may also be default.
