We're this close guys, it may not matter much in the long run, but it'd be pretty sweet to see Melee break the streak of Ocarina of Time and Final Fantasy 7. Really the fact that Undertale, Melee, and Mario RPG have gotten as far as they did make me more than satisfied.
Look like Undertale is going to beat Melee right now. I really hope OoT doesn't win the competition. I'm fine with either SMRPG or Undertale winning the game.
The nostalgia bias is strong with most of the games in this contest but the recency bias for Undertale is beyond goddamn ridiculous. Especially when a bunch of its ralliers are literally doing it for the lulz to piss of GameFAQs. IMO three months really shouldn't be enough to determine a game's long term impact.
Shovel Knight may have been 2014's indie circle jerk game, but I thought it really fun.
I do mean to eventually play Undertale, but the fact that everyone I've talked to tells me that ITS LIFE CHANGING ART THAT WILL MAKE YOU FEEL really makes me suspicious on if it's an actual game or not.
The game is best to play without any outside indication of how good it is. Otherwise, it's decent. However, I don't see it as BGE material. A game of that title is usually overrated for years.
Well guys, Undertale beat Melee. Kind of mad, but I'm sure everyone who voted Undertale will realize the mistake they made fairly soon. Looks like OOT is stomping SMRPG too, so OOT vs Undertale are the finals

The thing is, it's literally a popularity contest. It's a battle between nostalgia and whatever the current flavor of the month is. In years past, before the indie scene explored, it was always the usual suspects that dominated these polls. Ocarina of Time, Mario 64, Final Fantasy VII, Goldeneye and others.
But things have changed. Hype culture has aimed itself at indie games in recent years. Once the next big indie game comes out I'm sure Undertale will quickly be forgotten and all the attention will be on that.
Besides, its not like GameFAQs polls are any stranger to upsets. Remember when L-Block dominated the "best character" poll?
An indie RPG that was created by Toby Fox and some other people that designed the characters. This game was inspired by the Mother series which people really like the game. The reasons why people, other than the one above, like the game is because of the story, characters, and the soundtrack which is very good just like the Mother series.
But, I do admit that to me, while Undertale is a great game, it shouldn't be the "best game ever" because while the story was very good, there are some moments that could of been done perfectly.
Muffet (one of the characters that was created as part of the Kickstarter's reward) should have more interaction with Frisk and friends. Also she need to have "dates" along with Mettaton.
More explanations of how and why Chara is a sociopath to humanity and a ******** to the Dreemurr family.
Why in the world are humans and monsters are fighting each other in the first place?
The backstories of the six souls that are killed while finding their way in the underground. If getting the souls are more important to Flowey and Asgore, should the game give us who they are? Also who is Frisk and what does it do in its hometown before going to the underground.
If Mettaton NEO wants to kill Frisk because of what happen to the underground in the Genocide run, could he not surrender to it and try to kill it even though he will lose the fight anyway?
The game was short of courses.
Other than some other flaws like the getting ambushed by the monsters too many times, if those moments could of done better, it might be one of the best game ever.
Then again, the fanbase and the memes that has been overused cause many people to think that the game is filled with memes and some **** when it really wasn't the case and that they haven't play the game at all.
Anyway, given that OoT is curbstomping SMRPG, I really hope Undertale wins the competition because OoT really shouldn't be the best game ever (so is Undertale too according to some people but even then, Undertale is definitely better than OoT) and I really considered OoT to be overrated. Please, I want to see the salt of GameFAQs...

EDIT: Honestly, I think that there are some people who create nice fanarts / comics of Undertale in Reddit and Tumblr while most of the them just make some ****posts or spread dumb Undertale memes over the internet. But I think that Undertale will be recognizable for few years until people forget about it except the true Undertale fans like me who knows how Undertale is a good game.
That was anticlimactic given that the OoT people basically "give up" against Undertale. I thought it should be a very close battle.
But, eh? I'm glad that a game that was better than OoT won the battle though. It's GameFAQs after all and beside, Undertale shouldn't be the "best game ever".
Undertale probably shouldn't have won, and I'm the guy who has an Undertale avatar and is listening to Undertale music as I type this. I'm really surprised it beat out classics like OOT and SMW, and it's extremely clear that's it's recent game bias.
That being said, It's a random poll on the internet, does it really matter? You don't have to have your game be super popular to enjoy it. It really shouldn't matter.
I really don't see why people get upset over which games wins a poll like that, as if it's going to change anything. Who cares if your game gets beaten by another game? If anything, it's probably a good thing for lesser-known games to win since it gets them exposure. People already know what Melee and OoT are. Nothing changes by them winning the poll.
Anyways, my thoughts about the game: I don't think of it as "the best game of all time" and I don't understand the hype around the soundtrack (it had good tracks and forgettable tracks, just like most games), but it did have a lot that made the game unique and I enjoyed it a lot. Being honest, I avoided the game for quite a while specifically because it was so popular and talked about, but eventually gave it a try and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it.
Basically, stop judging games based on how popular they are, or whether or not they win a poll. It seems silly to me that there are people bashing on it just because it beat out their favorite game, as if they're having to somehow defend their viewpoint on their game being the best when people already know the standard classics are good already.
I'm just glad to see an actual good game win. If something like FNAF did, then I could see a legit reason for people getting upset.
Undertale was and is an excellent game. I'm only somewhat surprised that it rose to the position it did. It's probably "new game feels" hitting me, but I would put it up with OoT. It definitely loses to MM, though.
