It finally happened, my friend cut his preorder...

Well my friend who lives over in Japan finally cut his preorder, after days of threatening he finally did it. He is primarily a Sony kind of gamer and has never played Smash before, he has watched me play Melee in the states, but did noy like it. I told him that this game was going to be the best seller for the Wii and have gotten him to follow the DOJO for several months now; but recently after the roster leak, he says he is not impressed with the roster.

He thinks the Mario series is overated, Pokemon is the "kiddie crack" series and is way to childish along side Kirby for him. He says Sonic is a "dead" character, all of these "retro" characters are just advertisement for their VC channel, he says that they completely ruined Solid Snake and that he has been "Nintendofied." He says that Pikmin was a crappy series and that the only characters that are even remotely interesting is Snake, Link and Samus. After hearing that the last newcomers were Lucario, Wolf, R.O.B, Toon Link and the rest were Melee characters. He said he was no longer impressed and instead will look forward to Street Fighter 4.

Oh well his loss, I will be enjoying Olimar, Wolf, Sonic, Meta-Knight, no Megaman but maybe I can fix that by hacking a copy of Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 and Brawl.



Anyways, I figured you would get a kick out of this. My friend thinks his money in purchasing a Wii to invest in this game was at a loss for him. Oh well, he can ship me his Wii and get me a pre-order for Japanese copy of Brawl.

First, the "leak" is not a leak, its a rumour. It could be just as false as true. He's jumping the gun.

Secondly, Kojima designed both Snake and his stage as far as I'm aware, so I guess it was him who "Nintendofied" Snake (even though Snake's model is near identical to MGS2, if not identical).

Thirdly, he sounds like the classic Nintendo hater. In other words he will never change.

Let him go and enjoy Brawl on your own.

If the 35 character roster ends up being true, your friend has every right to be beyond disappointed. The game's going to be great regardless but I don't think Nintendo truly understands how badly they've shot themselves in the foot if the final roster is as bland as it's rumored to be.

I own a 360 and a Wii and not affected at all by the console wars. I grew up with Nintendo but that doesn't mean I will purchase a console that has games that interest me. You can already tell that this won't end well, as he is only vowing to try Brawl because the PlayStation 3 is not doing so good and the XBox 360 is non-existent in Japan.

gave Playstation 2 and X-Box a chance to see if they were any good (the Playstation is good,
but the X-Box had too big controllers and even then it was decent in my eyes). Even though I
crossed the extremist line like your friend, I could give these consoles a chance. Your friend
doesn't look like he actually played games from those series he described, meaning that he
judges a game from it's cover, and it might be that he's very very close-minded or in denial
that a Nintendo game might actually mop the floor with a Playstation game because casual
people might find it easy to play, and even more fun than anything they've played on other
consoles. He might even be an extremist to the degree that he fears that any other console
other than Playstation consoles will do well on the market, and thus make gamers stray away
from "the true righteous path" that is the "bliss" of having a Sony console. So he goes into
denial that any game from other consoles may be great games, and makes himself not enjoy
the game, practically convincing himself that ignorance is bliss and shutting out "sinful
thoughts" should be done by not playing other consoles and thus receive no experience,
making oneself "stupid". It seems that your friend might have achieved this "ignorance is bliss"
philosophy, and thus he has turned into an extremist idiot fanboy who can't recognize good
quality games even if someone showed them right up his nose. That is extremely sad, but it's

I want to thank the original poster for creating this thread. It's something different and it's a nice break from all the debates going on about all the rumors. While the person described seems as close-minded as those debating the rumors, it's nice that smash boards can finally agree on something (that something being that this guy is a close-minded fanboy who might actually like some Nintendo games if he actually tried them instead of judging them on appearances alone).
